How To Select Paint Colours For Your Home
Our resident stylist Fliss suggests starting with an object or a key piece that will feature in the room. For example choose a painting that uses colours you love or a rug that will be the centre piece. Read more here...
Taking Care Of Your Front Door
To keep a period front door in good condition and looking it’s best, maintenance is key. You should inspect your wooden door regularly. Check for rot, infestation and that joints and hinges are fine and if it needs a new coat of paint.
Understanding Our Butler Bell
Our beautiful Butler Bell is from the late Georgian Period, around 1820-1830. A replica was taken and recreated by our supplier. We were excited to see that a TV production company featured this reproduction bell in the credits to Downton Abbey! (although the backplate was altered slightly).
How to care your satin brass products
To achieve this gorgeous finish, pieces are cast from solid unlacquered brass, and then the surface is brushed to achieve a smooth, satin finish. Satin Brass has the warmth of Polished Brass but the softer texture allows for a more contemporary look.
Pewter Patina Maintenance
Forged from a durable steel base, the Pewter Patina finish has a textured surface which replicates natural weathering and further enhances the shadowy tones in this silvery-grey finish. The result is a soft finish that looks perfectly at home in rustic properties but can also add a lovely textured touch to contemporary homes
Aged Bronze Maintenance
Aged Bronze fittings are manufactured from solid bronze, containing a minimum of 85% copper which provides corrosion resistance and a subtle reddish hue to the metal. The ageing process deepens the shade of the metal resulting in a deep, off-black colour with a rich matte finish.
Distressed Antique Brass Maintenance
To achieve this finish, a dark ageing is applied over solid unlacquered brass to give a rich, deep brown shade with some golden and lighter brown hues. The surface is then brushed and weathered to enhance the aged appearance and to give a lovely depth to the finish.

How to care for your exterior beeswax products
Black Beeswax is one of our favourite finishes for cottages and rustic properties, but as this finish isn’t suitable for outdoor use or damp environments (due to the steel base beneath the Beeswax coating being susceptible to rust), unfortunately this took this gorgeous, rich finish out of the running for front doors and steamy rooms. So, we were thrilled when this popular finish got an upgrade – enter Exterior Beeswax!
A simple guide to caring for your matte black brass products
To protect the finish, Matte Black pieces are applied with a layer of Beeswax during manufacturing. To maintain, gently wipe fittings from time to time with a soft, damp cloth and then dry thoroughly before re-applying a layer of Beeswax. Over time, the applied Matte Black finish will wear through on raised areas that see the most regular use, slowly revealing the brass beneath. As the unlacquered brass peeps through, it will continue to oxidise and develop a natural patina.
Stainless Steel Maintenance
Marine Grade Stainless Steel is available in a Polished or Satin finish. The surface of Polished fittings is polished to a high shine, resulting in a bright, crisp finish. The Satin finish is brushed to a matte sheen, offering a softly textured appearance well suited to contemporary and traditional settings alike.
