AmeriCorps is a national service program, like a domestic Peace Corps. Volunteers for this program will have a full-time contracted volunteer position for 10.5 months, which we call a term of service. Members are sponsored by both the Red Cross and the AmeriCorps to serve communities in need. Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Red Cross, and over 90% of our workforce is volunteers. To lessen the financial impact of service, members receive some benefits, such as a bi-weekly stipend and health insurance.

Our Public Health AmeriCorps members focus their service on recruiting and engaging volunteers and educating communities on emergency readiness. Members will also have the opportunity to assist with local disaster operations.

  • An Education Award of $6,895.00 to repay qualified student loans or to pay for tuition will be available at the end of service period to members who fulfill service-hour requirements
  • Health insurance, childcare benefits, loan forbearance and interest repayment provided for those who qualify

Requirements
  • Must pass local, state, and national FBI background and sex offender registry check. 
  • Must be U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the United States.
  • Full-time (35-40 hours per week): Members are required to complete 1,700 hours within an 11-month period. The hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 am – 5 pm, however, we do offer some flexibility and scheduling issues can be worked out with the site supervisor as necessary.
  • Day and evening hours necessary, with some weekend hours required
