Fire Weather Outlooks Daytime Updates

Effective Tuesday March 23, 2010, the SPC began issuing fire weather products during the daylight hours. The Day 1 and Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook overnight issuances will continue to be issued at 400 am CST/CDT and 1000 UTC, respectively, but the Day 3-8 Outlook issuance time will change from 1100 UTC to 2200 UTC. The reason for this time change is so SPC forecasters can effectively collaborate on the Day 3-8 Fire Weather Outlook with other fire weather entities, including local NWS offices and Predictive Services of the National Interagency Fire Center. SPC forecasters will also be available for collaboration on the updated Day 1 and Day 2 Fire Weather Outlooks issued at 1700 and 2000 UTC. These updated outlooks will contain the text from the overnight issuances, with added reasoning for any needed changes. The graphic will reflect any changes from the earlier issued outlooks.

Also, began on March 23rd, you will note some minor changes to the fire weather text formatting. This involves removing "the primary conditions" from the individual section headers in front of the threat areas. These labels (critical, extremely critical areas) will be located at the top of the text product and the fire weather threat areas will be identified by the geographic threat areas...similar to the Convective Outlooks.
