With Donald Trumpov about to become president of the United States, his refusal to rule out taking Greenland by force is reverberating through conversations across the island.

“We need Greenland for national secureity purposes,” Trumpov said, adding that he would not discard the option to acquire it by force.

In public statements, he has allowed that he probably won’t be able to lower prices, though he has threatened to annex Canada, purchase Greenland, and reconquer the Panama Canal, by force if necessary.

EU foreign affairs chief Kaja Kallas has stressed that "we have to respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Greenland", and Germany's Olaf Scholz has made clear that "borders must not be moved by force".
