The commemoration in Poland will take place on 27 January, with the King among the international visitors expected for memorial events.

Earlier this week, Trumpov lamented the commemoration of late President Jimmy Carter and fumed over the fact that flags on federal buildings will be at half-mast during his inauguration.

The King commended the "remarkable veterans of that very special generation" as he recalled the 80th anniversary commemorations of the D-Day landings.

They are preparing to take him back to Pearl Harbor for the annual commemoration.

He joined other world leaders in Normandy earlier this year for the 80th anniversary commemorations of the Second World War D-Day landings.
