Morgan added that “Good Day Sunshine” is a world that Vincent can control, unlike his own, and that the puppets give life to his voices as he struggles with his mental health and alcoholism.

When he began working as a puppeteer, he found it daunting to try to give life to a lifeless object in a way that felt convincing, but over the years he’s discovered that audiences want to believe in the distinct magic of puppetry.

Beletsky also used the seven episodes to give life to Black characters who often were left out of the telling of pivotal moments in American history.

“But then 2020 hit,” Dirnt adds, “and we didn’t really get to give life to the record.”

He had already assembled about 100 portraits of people he knew a decade ago, when a personal tragedy intervened to give life to the epic journey he is undertaking.
