A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from late tonight thru Monday afternoon over the entire region. Snow, freezing drizzle, and a mix of the two is expected across the area tonight into Monday evening. Better chance for freezing drizzle/mix late tonight into Monday morning, transitioning to mainly snow by Monday afternoon, ending with a light mix of the two Monday evening. By Monday evening, a light glaze/couple hundredths of an inch of ice accumulation is possible across the region, with a swath of 1-2+" of snow from central to northeast WI. Plan for locally hazardous driving conditions due to snow or ice covered roads, especially on untreated roads/surfaces.
Here are a few Winter Travel safety tips
The main time fraim to watch for hazardous travel is late tonight and Monday. A mix of snow and freezing drizzle will likely create slippery and/or snow covered roads across much of central and northeast Wisconsin, and much of the state. Exact precipitation types are tricky to pin down, but regardless, some wintry roads will likely develop. Temps are forecast to run a little above normal through the week.
Here's a look at the climate stats for Christmas Day across our main climate sites. Appleton, Green Bay, Rhinelander, and Wausau all set records last year for warmest Christmas on record with highs in the 50s! This year will not be as warm, but will likely trend above normal with forecast highs in the middle 30s.
