A large west to northwest swell will bring extended period of high surf to the southern California coast today into much of the upcoming week. Surf heights are expected to peak Monday into Tuesday, morning when there is an increased risk of damaging surf and coastal flooding of beach roadways and parking lots for the Central Coast and Ventura Coast. This will cause dangerous conditions for boaters near shore and around exposed harbor entrances. Large breaking waves can overtop sea walls, and even overturn boats traveling through harbor entrances.
Potential rain and gusty winds for Christmas Eve on Tuesday and Tuesday night, December 24th. Areas north of Point Conception will have the highest totals with many areas seeing 0.25 to 0.75 inches. Areas south of Point Conception will see light rain, with most areas less than 0.25 inches. Gusty winds are possible as the system passes through the region. Highest rain totals and strongest winds likely across mountains and foothills. Slippery roads and minor ponding on roadways are possible, mainly north of Point Conception.
