Extremely Critical Fire Weather in Southern California; Winter Storm To Impact the Southern U.S.

High winds and low relative humidity will continue critical to extremely critical fire weather in southern California through Thursday. A winter storm is expected to bring major impacts from areas of heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain to portions of the southern Plains beginning on Thursday before intensifying as it shifts across the Mid-South Friday through Saturday morning. Center Weather Service Unit (CWSU) Miami

Mission: To constantly strive to provide the most accurate and dependable weather information possible to our FAA customers, both in-house and off-site, contributing to the safest and most efficient use of our nation's National Airspace System.

Operations:The Miami Center Weather Service Unit (ZMA CWSU) is located at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ARTCC in Miami, Florida. The CWSU is staffed 16 hours/day by four National Weather Service (NWS) meteorologists and 24 hours/day by Traffic Management Unit personnel. The meteorologists’ hours of operation are from 5:15 AM to 9:00 PM daily.
