The Rochester Museum and Science Center has just opened a new exhibit that it says will offer visitors an immersive science experience.
It's called Science on a Sphere, and it involved an interactive globe and 3-D data projection system which helps showcase natural phenomena such as atmospheric storms and planetary features in high resolution.
The way RMSC officials describe it, the exhibit will help museum guests experience real-time data in stunning detail and accuracy. Called SOS for short, it's part of the museum's new Data Theater, and it will reveal patterns in data on a global scale, with representations of the paths of storms, changes in ocean temperature and other phenomena.
Science on a Sphere was developed by researchers at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as a visualization tool to help illustrate Earth and space sciences to people of all ages and backgrounds.
Admission to the exhibit is included in the cost of a regular museum admission.
