Charlelie Cosnet, Jaden Weekes Qualify for Main Draw at ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Oklahoma – Two Wildcats – Charlelie Cosnet and Jaden Weekes – punched their tickets into the singles main draw at the ITA Men’s All-American Championships as the tournament’s qualifying rounds wrapped up on Wednesday evening. Weekes powered his way through the pre-qualifying and qualifying draws, winning five matches in four days to earn his spot in the field of 64. Cosnet, ranked No. 83 in the country, only needed two victories in the standard qualification draw to advance.

The ITA All-American Championships is the first of four qualification tournaments to the first-ever fall edition of the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, to be held from November 19-24 at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas. 10 positions in the 64-player singles draw will be decided in Tulsa, as the eight quarterfinalists and two consolation finalists from the ITA All-American Championships will secure their place. Other opportunities to qualify will happen at the ITA Regional, Sectional, and Conference Masters championships to be contested later this fall.

Weekes, a junior from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, earned his opportunity to play for a NCAA bid the hard way, winning five matches across pre-qualifying and qualifying to qualify for the main draw. Weekes has yet to drop a set in the tournament – or the fall season – on his way to an 8-0 start to the 2024-25 campaign. The Canadian earned his first ranked win of the season in the final round of qualifying, taking out No. 62 Andrii Zimnokh of Alabama to advance to Wednesday’s Round of 64.

No. 83 Cosnet earned two ranked wins in two days to move on to the final stage of the tournament, knocking off No. 74 Nicolas Kotzen of Columbia and No. 106 Stian Klaassen of San Diego. In the final round of qualifying against Klaassen, the Le Mans, France native was down 6-4, 5-1 before storming back to take the second set in a tiebreak. The Frenchman would end up claiming victory 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4 in a two hour and 54-minute battle.

The Wildcat duo will continue competition on Wednesday, September 25 in the Round of 64. Weekes will play his ninth match of the tournament (combining singles and doubles) at Noon ET, taking on No. 16 Pedro Rodenas of Duke. Cosnet will open up his main draw run at 2:30 p.m. Et against another qualifier, No. 57 Luca Staeheli of NC State.

The main draw is made up of 64 players – including 16 qualifiers – and is set to be played from Wednesday, September 25 to Sunday, September 29 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa. Players must win three matches in the main draw to earn one of eight NCAA qualifying spots awarded to quarterfinalists. Should a player lose in one of the first three rounds, they still have the opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Individual Championships through a feed-in consolation draw.

Jack Loutit and Martin Breysach also participated in the tournament for the Wildcats, but neither player was able to claim victory in their singles matches. Breysach, however, did win one doubles match in pre-qualifying alongside Weekes.
