The EDC and the Graham Office are proud to announce being named the 2024 University Economic Development Association (UEDA) Award of Excellence winner for the Talent category. This recognition was presented at the 2024 UEDA Summit in South Bend, Indiana.
The Graham Office of Career Management, represented by Josh Taylor, received the award for its innovative program, "#WhatsYourStartDate: A Career Center’s Strategic Scaling Strategies to Take Gen-Z from Backpack to Briefcase." This program reflects the office's dedication to connecting students with job opportunities in Kentucky, supporting the economic growth of the state.

UK Innovate, the innovation, entrepreneurship and economic enterprise for UK Research, recognized and celebrated UK innovators at its Patent Palooza! event Oct. 15. The in-person event brought around 100 attendees to honor innovation and impact throughout the university.
The event spotlighted key achievements from fiscal year 2024 and recognized more than 120 UK innovators who were issued 43 patents, had 66 licenses and options executed for their innovations, received two SBIR/STTR (Small Business Innovation Research-Small Business Technology Transfer) awards and 29 teams completed Launch Blue’s UAccel program.

The university is dedicated to upholding a powerful promise — to prepare students to lead lives of meaning and purpose. Part of that commitment is empowering and encouraging students to understand the importance of investing in themselves.
In September 2022, UK Invests was announced— a new, first-of-its-kind initiative to help students become healthier, wealthier and wiser by building a foundation of financial literacy.
Now, through the program, all UK students (undergraduate, graduate and professional) can deepen their understanding of financial wellness, practice investing and receive monetary rewards for institution-identified healthy behaviors.

To tackle the critical shortage of childcare services in rural Kentucky, two new childcare centers are set to open with vital support from the Kentucky Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Child Care Initiative.
UK administers the SBDC in partnership with regional academic institutions, economic development organizations, the private sector and the state.
Funded by a Truist Charitable Fund Grant and delivered in partnership with the Kentucky SBDC and the Southeast Kentucky Economic Development Corporation (SKED), the initiative has equipped these centers with essential tools and resources to ensure their success.

Early this fall, Fischer Homes and Valvoline Global representatives visited the University of Kentucky as part of the university's Career Builder Days. This initiative aimed to connect students and faculty with industry leaders from the OneUK partnership, fostering valuable networking opportunities and career insights.
During the two-day event, representatives engaged with multiple colleges, including the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, College of Arts and Sciences, the Stanley and Karen Pigman College of Engineering, Gatton College of Business and Economics, and the College of Fine Arts.

| | Lesley Oliver was appointed the Associate Director of the Kentucky Agricultural Experiment Station (KAES) and Research Office in the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment at the University of Kentucky in May of 2014. She came to UK in 2009 as the Assistant Director of the KAES. As Associate Director, she oversees the Agricultural Experiment Station’s federal capacity grant programs and helps develop programs and policies that promote faculty success in in obtaining extramural funding, partnering with industry, and managing grants and contracts. She serves as an advisor to nationally coordinated research projects related to animal nutrition, STEM in ag education, specialty crops and hemp production, and previously served on the Board of Directors for the Southern Rural Development Center. Economic development activities include service on UK’s Economic Development Collaborative and advisor to the Bluegrass AgTech Development Corp, a public-private partnership between the Martin-Gatton College, City of Lexington, Alltech and the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. She also serves as one of the Martin-Gatton College’s liaisons to OneUK.
