You are now a Reviewer
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Karanacs (talk) 17:35, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

FP galleries order
[edit]Hiya Adam, several months ago we decided it made more sense to put new FPs at the top. Seems to make sense to have our latest promotions front and centre. Noodle snacks went through and changed around each gallery for us, reversing the order. I can find you the discussion we had about it? I undid your edit here: [1] due to the change. I think you promoted a couple of pictures recently, do you want me to change the gallery placements for them, too, or would you like to take care of that? Maedin\talk 18:00, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
- Ja, no problema, I'll fix it, :) I realised you probably missed the change, not a big deal and easily corrected! Maedin\talk 18:19, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

BTW, I put it in theater because, while I understand your feeling that it applies more to his life, I thought seeing as it's an advertisement of the play with a description of the play in it with him portraying a character that it more directly applies to theater and the arts. --I′d※<3※Ɵɲɛ (talk) 18:59, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

In the News
[edit]Hey, Dude!
I'm not trying to pick a fight with you. I sympathise with your viewpoint. I genuinely do. I'm also totally opposed to censorship. However, there is a place for everything. I moved your essay to your userspace so that you can work on it there at your leisure. I acted, per WP:BOLD, because others were of the view that your essay didn't belong there, making me the third person to have that opinion. You seem to be the only one to want it there, and I suspect you are already upset that others are not coming up to pat your back at the newsdesk saying they agree with you. Well, I do agree with you. Having said that, what is clear is that you are currently in a huge froth. I do suggest that you chill out somewhat, and that you engage in whatever activity you find most relaxing, and come back in 24 hours, suitably refreshed and ready to contribute positively. Cheers, Ohconfucius ¡digame! 08:49, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, and by the way, I don't think it's really on to delete somebody else's comments outright just because you disagree. I'd say the edit summary is rather combattive and disrespectful to others. Ohconfucius ¡digame! 08:54, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Quitting
[edit]I get that you're upset. People make mistakes everywhere; I've had to put up with it too. I've been the target of a campaign led by Grawp. I've been accused of all sorts of horrible things by people who have then come out of discussions unscathed. I've received considerable abuse for the most simple of things- it seems there is someone, somewhere, who will target you for absolutely anything you're willing to say or reveal. I have stuck with Wikipedia because I always come back to the better parts- the highest quality content, the people willing to volunteer their time and talents, the new users eager to learn and listen. At the same time, I recognise Wikipedia's strengths and goals, and, though there's going to be cock-ups along the way, as I see it, we're still going strong, heading in that direction. We have to pick and choose what is worth fighting about, and what is worth fighting for; of course, over the long run, it is the people here the longest who will have to put up with the most. Equally, someone who climbs 100 mountains is more likely to get injured over their whole career than someone who climbs one. You've also got to remember that the people who value you most may never say so- we only normally contact people to tell them they've done something wrong. Take new image patrol- I send messages to anyone who has uploaded an improper image, and this can cause unhappiness- perhaps I should be sending messages to everyone who uploads an image that is useful, with all necessary information, to thank them and let them know that it's appreciated. Of course your work is appreciated- it's appreciated by anyone who's read one of your articles, or looked at one of your pictures. It's appreciated by everyone who supports your images at FPC. It's appreciated by people you've never talked to, and who have never talked to you. Editing can get too hot; take a break, read a good book, perhaps do some work on another project; but come back for the better things, the people that do appreciate your work, and the enjoyment I know you've got from being part of this project, when you're ready. If you want to talk, you know where I am. J Milburn (talk) 09:52, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Adam, I haven't had interacted with you much, but I have been impressed with your contributions; I'm sure most editors who know you are appreciative of what you've done for the 'pedia. All editors get riled up at some time or another, and I've seen many leave in a huff, only to return back refreshed after a short break. I hope you do the same; it's hard to stay away permanently. Thanks for all you've done. Dabomb87 (talk) 14:36, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- J Milburn's post above really hit the nail on the head. I read your side on your note and I can't comment on it because I don't know those users, am pretty unfamiliar with that section of Wikipedia and haven't heard their side of the issue; from what you said it sounds like you weren't wrong, but of course in their eyes you were and both of you felt justified in your actions, but it's a shame when a person feels harrassed on Wikipedia. I've been using it almost 4 years now and have come across virtually no such such instances, especially not lasting a year and I see now that I've secretly been blessed in that way to not have to deal with such drama here. Because I don't have much knowledge of the conflict besides the details you shared I can't say how outrageous the other users' actions were or by how much they've failed to be not be dicks, but I do know that on a website like Wikipedia where, behavior-wise their are few rules and basic expectations for decorum and treatment that usually do work to create a positive atmosphere, it's a shame when someone can carry on so bad they could make someone just up and leave; I'm not sure of all of what they did, but you dealing with it for a year and finally just having to leave doesn't shine positively on the Wik-ommunity, but if you feel you must I can understand, not wanting to have to keep enduring something unfair, I'm sure if it were me I'd do the same. If what you say is true though perhaps comes back, find a safe forum, even if only here on your talk page and raise the issues of unfairness - you know, don't talk about it, be about it, so that, if possible, Wikipedia can be a better place for you and the rest of us. If what you describe is true you're probably not the only one who's gone through it and others who have will probably be able to offer their views. --I'ḏ♥One 19:40, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

FP categories
[edit]I'll do Food if you're willing to combine Culture & lifestyle - you may have seen that I found a link from when those categories were still together (on FPC talk). Should help you. Let me know if that sounds like a deal to you. I'm happy to do mine first, because I think it will make your job easier later on. Papa Lima Whiskey (talk) 13:36, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
- To be honest, I've always tried to do it chronologically. It does make joining categories rather more difficult, but in the end it helps to know what thumbnails to display on WP:FP in case the category is a top category. If you want to swap duties, that's okay - meanwhile, I've made a start on Wikipedia:Featured Pictures/Food and drink. Papa Lima Whiskey (talk) 14:30, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
- What say you to a "food production" category? I think it'll initially have half a dozen items, mostly from the lifestyle and culture categories. I feel an inner inclination to keep that separate from the foods themselves. Papa Lima Whiskey (talk) 15:04, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
- Re: history, what did you have in mind? I do think any really big changes will have to be mentioned on WT:FPC, but I agree that this is the English-language Wikipedia, so Earth-centric is okay for the time being. :) Papa Lima Whiskey (talk) 15:29, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
- As I've said before, anything that manages to assemble a larger number of items from any "Other X" category into a sensible, well-defined package will get my support, so your Crimean suggestion has it. If I had to put a peg down, I'd say any category needs to have at least four items to be useful if there's an expectation that it's going to grow, and at least six items if it doesn't look like something that will increase much. Papa Lima Whiskey (talk) 16:28, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
