puuha
Appearance
Finnish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Unknown. Ingrian puuha and Karelian puuha are probably borrowed from Finnish.
Pronunciation
[edit]Noun
[edit]puuha
- work, undertaking, activity; chore, trouble
- Muutaman kerran sitä testasin, mutta oli se vaan niin äärimmäisen tylsää puuhaa.
- I tested it a couple of times, but it was just such an extremely boring chore.
- Puutarhanhoito on minulle mieluista puuhaa.
- Gardening is fun to me.
Usage notes
[edit]Not a strictly positive or negative term (as e.g. the translation chore would imply), but depends on context. The implication is rather that something takes a lot of work, but it may be rewarding, or not.
