Advance Your Global Competitiveness and Cross-Cultural Understanding through an Academic Year Study Abroad Scholarship
The FLEX Abroad program, which launched in 2022, provides merit-based scholarships for eligible high school students to attend a local school in Georgia, Kazakhstan, Poland or Romania for an academic year. FLEX Abroad participants serve as young ambassadors of the United States, promoting mutual understanding and forming lasting relationships with their host families and local communities. A network of support through the program organization, field staff, trained volunteers, and carefully selected host families helps ensure a successful exchange experience.
If you have a passion for learning about other cultures, this program may be for you!
By participating in FLEX Abroad, participants will develop leadership skills, make friends in other countries, learn about a new culture by living with a host family, and gain an understanding of shared global interests and values. FLEX Abroad will promote the development of respectful and enduring relationships between Americans and citizens of other countries, while giving participants new perspectives on American culture from the vantage point of living overseas.
Approximately 20 American students participate in FLEX Abroad annually. Upon their return to the United States, the students will be able to apply their leadership skills and share knowledge about their host countries through community engagement.
Launched in 1993 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the FLEX program strengthens ties between the peoples of the United States and Europe and Eurasia. There are more than 32,000 FLEX alumni from 24 countries across the regions, making a difference in our world.
