Thank you for considering assisting with the Student arm
of the SHINE conference, held each summer in a different location. This
application is to apply to be either the new Jr. Student
Representative, or a student committee member.
Student day is 100% organized and conducted by students
within the SHINE community that are appointed as Student
Representatives. The Student Representatives are in charge of forming
the schedule for Student Day, as well as any other student-related
activities throughout the conference. This includes not only arranging
the student day speakers and panels, but also running the student poster
contest. Student reps have also organized social events for SHINE
students throughout the week.
TIME COMMITMENT:
2 year term - Serve for a tenure of two SHINE meetings and must be a student during both meetings.
Monthly video call meetings during Fall semesters
Bi-weekly video call meetings during Spring semesters
Communicating with other student rep and students multiple times a week ~4 - 6 weeks prior to conference
RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Being available as a primary source of communication for SHINE students both throughout the year and at the meeting*
Process previous student day surveys
Organize the next student day, some of which includes:
Make a schedule and implement changes based on survey & ideas from new reps
Plan Ice Breaker
Secure career panelists and students for tutorial/research talks
Find a guest speaker
Organize student poster judging competition
Responsibilities at the meeting, some of which include:
Summarize student day during opening remarks on Monday morning
Process votes of best student talk and the poster judging competition
Be the voice of the SHINE student population to the Steering committee
