98editions is a small press based in Beirut. Our first four issues consisted of individual chapbooks by writers working in different forms and genres. With this publication, 98editions inaugurates MAkhZIN, an occasional periodical that may be themed or un-themed.

Beginning with source texts, such as legal briefs from American courts (which provided the base for his major work 'Testimony: The United States 1885–1915'), and with the testimonies embedded within 'The Trials of the Major War Criminals at Nuremberg' and 'The Eichmann Trial in Jerusalem', which he reworked into his book 'Holocaust' (1975), Reznikoff's editing practice, which appears minimal, sharpens a reader's perception of historical conditions and social surfaces. We bring Reznikoff's practice forward with an interview with Georg Deggerich, the translator of 'Holocaust' into German, by Lina Leonore Morawetz. Reznikoff's dedication to the material he worked with – both the testimonies and language itself –was a sincere relationship between the materiality of the poem the materiality of history.
