SA/VS honors students at Carey Ellis Juried Student Show

Lydia Newton, an art studio and arts administration senior and Lewis Honors College student from Bardstown, Kentucky, won first place at this year’s Carey Ellis Juried Exhibition for “They’re Just Hands."

Sara Dickens Receives Lyman T. Johnson Torch Bearer Award

During the 33rd annual Lyman T. Johnson Awards Luncheon hosted by the University of Kentucky Alumni Association, the Lewis Honors College proudly selected senior Sara Dickens as its 2024 Lyman T. Johnson Torch Bearer Award winner for her academic excellence and impact on others.  “Winning this award means everything to me. To join a lineage of inspiring individuals was just the right motivation during one of the most challenging points of my life. I appreciate this honor and will hold it dear to my heart after graduation,” Sara said.

Physiology Scholars Program welcomes new cohort focused on biomedical research

Lewis Honors College students, Ryan Brennan and Sarisha Lohano, have been selected to be part of the new cohort of the University of Kentucky’s Department of Physiology Scholars Program.

2024 Oswald Research and Creativity Competition winners announced

Lewis Honors College students represented nearly half of the Oswald Research and Creativity Competition award-winners in 2024. Honors College students received first and second place awards in the categories of Biological Sciences, Physical and Engineering Sciences, and second place awards in Fine Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities: Critical Research.

CATS for Ghana poised to help overseas students excel

Lewis Honors College sophomore Akua Asamoah founded CATS for Ghana, "an organization brought about to reduce health and educational inequality in Ghana", in March 2024 as a UK freshman.

Neuroscience and pharmacology research raises recent UK grad's interest in medicine

Recent UK graduate Elaf Ghoneim, an alumna of the Lewis Honors College and neuroscience major while an undergraduate, conducted research on novel anti-inflammatory small molecule drug candidates in clinical trials. Selected as 2022-23 Beckman Scholar, her research took place in the lab of Linda Van Eldik, Ph.D., director of the UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging.

Lewis Honors, Gatton College host guest speaker, panel discussion on community development

The Lewis Honors College, Gatton College of Business and Economics and the Appalachian Center will host guest speaker, Dr. Seth Kaplan, for a talk entitled, "Strengthening Appalachia: Strategies Overcoming Fragility and Fostering Growth". A panel discussion featuring local government officials and University faculty members will follow the lecture.

Frank Romanelli receives national 2025 Rho Chi Lecture Award

The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy (UKCOP) proudly announces that Frank Romanelli, Pharm.D., Parker Endowed Professor and chief academic officer, and Lewis Honors College faculty member has been awarded the 2025 Rho Chi Lecture Award. This top honor, presented annually by the Rho Chi Society, recognizes those who have made profound and transformative contributions to the health professions through their dedication to education, research, and service.

UK’s Badour recognized as KPA’s ‘Psychologist of the Year’

Christal Badour, Ph.D., an associate professor of psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences and Lewis Honors College faculty member at the University of Kentucky, has been honored as the 2024 “Psychologist of the Year” by the Kentucky Psychological Association (KPA). Christal Badour’s work examines the development and treatment of psychological disorders following exposure to violence and other traumatic events.

‘Behind the Blue’: 2024 Great Teachers spotlight — Zada Komara

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 17, 2024) — The University of Kentucky Alumni Association started the Great Teacher Award program in 1961 to honor excellent teaching at the university.
