This paper explores Kuyper's approach to natural theology and general revelation. Kuyper's view o... more This paper explores Kuyper's approach to natural theology and general revelation. Kuyper's view of natural theology was that it is important but limited. Kuyper rejected the view that general revelation provides the foundations for special revelation as it results in the autonomy of reason. Furthermore, he rejected natural theology as rational proof or argument for the existence and nature of God. He distinguished but did not separate general and special revelation from each other. Kuyper also accepted "creational revelation", which is a better term for his view of general revelation.

Thanks to recent translation projects, Abraham Kuyper and Herman Bavinck have almost become house... more Thanks to recent translation projects, Abraham Kuyper and Herman Bavinck have almost become household names within the academic Reformed Christian community. However, there are other lesser-known but equally important figures who deserve recognition. These Dutch Christians, including Herman Dooyeweerd, Dirk Vollenhoven and Antheunis Janse, built on the foundations laid by Kuyper and Bavinck and developed a Christian philosophy that is profound and insightful. It's time for us to give these visionaries the recognition they deserve and appreciate the depth of their contribution to Christian thought. In this article, I want to examine five good reasons why we should be reading Dirk Hendrik Theodoor Vollenhoven (1892-1978) today. Vollenhoven has often been in the shadow of his brother-in-law Herman Dooyeweerd. Now is a good time to reassess Vollenhoven's contribution to Christian scholarship. But first, some brief biographical information.

In this paper, I examine some of his critics and the reasons for their criticism. These include P.J. Hoedemaker, Klaas Schilder, Foppe Ten Hoor, A.A. Van Ruler, and ministers of the Protestant Reformed Churches in America (PRCA). The main issues with which they disagree with Kuyper include his ecclesiology, common grace, and presumed regeneration. These differences are then evaluated.

Herman Dooyeweerd (1894-1977) was one of the foremost philosophers of the Netherlands. He develop... more Herman Dooyeweerd (1894-1977) was one of the foremost philosophers of the Netherlands. He developed a Christian philosophy based on the approach of Dutch statesman and theologian Abraham Kuyper. In this article, I provide a brief introduction to Dooyeweerd and outline the contours of his Christian philosophy. His philosophy was unique in that it started with the creator and his laws, rather than thought, reason, common sense, observation, logic or any other created aspect.

A Tribute to E.L. Hebden Taylor (1925-2006): British Export to North America by Steve Bishop Belgium Congo Hebden Taylor began life as the son of missionary parents, who met and married in Mwanza, Africa, on October 17, 1923. His father, Rev. Cyril Eustace Taylor, born in Streatham, South London, read medicine at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, after which, in 1920, at the age of 28, he left England for Ngoimani in Katanga, Belgium Congo, now known as the Democratic Republic of Congo, to serve as a medical missionary. Taylor's mother, Marjorie Victoria Hebden Taylor, likewise left for the mission field in the Congo, at age 21, to work with the Emmaus Pentecostal Mission. After marriage, Taylor's parents moved to the Ngoimani station, where they contributed to the planting of 38 churches, with a combined congregation of over 3000. This was the context in which Hebden Taylor was born, on July 25, 1925, the first of six children. His father, who died of pneumonia in Switzerland while raising funds for the Congo Mission, is buried in Vevey. After Rev. Cyril Eustace Taylor died, a letter sent to Mrs. Taylor from the people of Ngoimani, after his death, January 27, 1935, shows the high

This paper examines Kuyper’s view of the natural sciences. For Kuyper science is by design a uniq... more This paper examines Kuyper’s view of the natural sciences. For Kuyper science is by design a unique creature of God, it flourishes within society, it grows and develops. It is part of creation, so even if there were to have been no fall, we would still have science. The fall, however, has impacted on science to an unimaginable extent. Science is independent of both church and state, thus science must be allowed to flourish unhampered by both. Science, for Kuyper, involves thinking God’s thoughts after him. There are two kinds of science and two kinds of people: normalists and abnormalists – what makes the difference is regeneration or palingenesis – this is Kuyper’s antithesis. Common grace is important for science without it the post-fall decline of science would be absolute. Strands of scholasticism are identified in Kuyper’s approach.

What does a dead, white, early-twentieth-century Dutch philosopher have to do with twenty-first-c... more What does a dead, white, early-twentieth-century Dutch philosopher have to do with twenty-first-century information systems? Plenty, according to Andrew Basden, Professor of Human Factors and Philosophy in Information Systems at University of Salford, Manchester, UK. He has written this book to show why. The philosopher is Herman Dooyeweerd. Dooyeweerd was the pioneer of a Christian philosophy that has been described as opaque and irrelevant. Basden provides a helpful overview of Dooyeweerd's, admittedly dense and complex, philosophy-showing that it doesn't necessarily have to be opaque. He then goes on to apply it to the area of information systems (IS)-showing that it, certainly when it comes to IS, is not irrelevant. Information systems is a very broad academic discipline, it comprises hardware, software and data and includes the design and implementation of computer languages, data models, hardware and software; it is far more than computers, word processing and spreadsheets.
