This presentation will include a summary of learning style research published in the Engineering Design Graphics Journal over the past 15 years on the topic of learning styles and graphics education. The presenters will also examine several learning style models and why they are important to the university graphics professor. Discussion will include a review of some of the learning style tests that are now available on the market. We will discuss how and why higher education student learning has changed in the last decade and introduce the concept of the social construction of technology.

Several areas of concentration are available and required in the pre-service teacher's course of study. One of those areas addresses the manipulation and creation of different graphics. This paper focuses on a recent study that was part of the National Science Foundation funded project: Enhancing Visualization Skills—Improving Options aNd Success (EnViSIONS). This portion of the EnViSIONS project studied pre-service teacher's ability to visualize graphics prior to any formal lessons in their pre-service program and again after using materials provided from the EnViSIONS project.

This study focuses on the effectiveness of using traditional vs. LCE methods to teach theory, principles, tools, and techniques of quality and productivity improvement. Both process metrics and teaching outcome measures indicate significant improvement using LCE methods as

The evolution of engineering design graphics as a profession has also evolved. Years before we entered the 21st century, higher education began to address the changes that technology brought to the curriculum. Now that we have entered the 21st century, we must move forward with technological innovations and creative thinking, but be cautious that we do not lose the art of freehand sketching. This paper traces the journey of engineering design graphics and the impact it has had in the academe and on the profession and the way designers work. It addresses the future of the field and the inevitable changes that emerging technologies will bring. _____________________________________________________________________________________
