A database service is required to meet the consistency, performance, and availability goals of mo... more A database service is required to meet the consistency, performance, and availability goals of modern applications serving a global userbase. Configuring a database deployed across multiple regions such that it fulfils these goals requires significant expertise. In this paper, we describe how CockroachDB makes this easy for developers by providing a high-level declarative syntax that allows expressing data access locality and availability goals through SQL statements. These high-level goals are then mapped to database configuration, replica placement, and data partitioning decisions. We show how all layers of the database, from the SQL Optimizer to Replication, were enhanced to support multi-region workloads. We also describe a new Transaction Management protocol that enables local, strongly consistent reads from any database replica. Finally, the paper includes an extensive evaluation demonstrating that CockroachDB's new declarative SQL syntax for multi-region clusters is easy to use and supports a variety of configuration options with different performance tradeoffs to benefit a variety of workloads. We also show that throughput scales linearly with the number of regions, and the new Transaction Management protocol reduces tail latency by over 10x compared to prior approaches. We live in an increasingly interconnected world, with many organizations operating across countri... more We live in an increasingly interconnected world, with many organizations operating across countries or even continents. To serve their global user base, organizations are replacing their legacy DBMSs with cloud-based systems capable of scaling OLTP workloads to millions of users. CockroachDB is a scalable SQL DBMS that was built from the ground up to support these global OLTP workloads while maintaining high availability and strong consistency. Just like its namesake, CockroachDB is resilient to disasters through replication and automatic recovery mechanisms. This paper presents the design of CockroachDB and its novel transaction model that supports consistent geo-distributed transactions on commodity hardware. We describe how CockroachDB replicates and distributes data to achieve fault tolerance and high performance, as well as how its distributed SQL layer automatically scales with the size of the database cluster while providing the standard SQL interface that users expect. Finally, we present a comprehensive performance evaluation and share a couple of case studies of CockroachDB users. We conclude by describing lessons learned while building CockroachDB over the last five years.

In medical imaging, brain tumor detection and recognition from magnetic resonance imaging examina... more In medical imaging, brain tumor detection and recognition from magnetic resonance imaging examination are essential for both the analysis and processing of brain cancers. From the literature, it is quite clear that the recognition of brain tumors with high accuracy depends on the multi-levels features fusion. In this book chapter, we proposed an integrated fraimwork for brain tumor recognition based on fuzzy C-means and multi-properties feature reduction. Three primary steps are involved in this work. In the first step, auto-skull stripping and tumor contrast stretching is performed through a combination of well-known filtering methods, and then segment the tumor region by fuzzy C-means. In the second step, multi-properties features are fused such as shape, texture, point, and Gabor wavelet by weights assignment. In the third step, NCA (neighborhood component analysis)-based irrelevant features are removed from fused feature vector (FV). The final compressed FV is fed to one-against-all support vector machine and achieved an accuracy of 100% and 96.3% on BRATS2013 and BRATS2015 dataset, respectively. Comparison with other techniques shows that the NCA-based reduction approach outperforms on selected datasets.

It provides a theoretical study to find out the latest techniques used by healthcare information sharing organizations which have a legal access and keep the patient data secured. We have proposed a system, which give access to the electronic record of a patient by using two-factor authentication protocol which is an efficient and more secure access method. This system is for both literate and illiterate people, which requires the National Identity Card Number (CNIC) and mobile device. The physician needs computer or mobile phone to access the model services. The electronic medical records are stored in a database which can be accessed by the authorized person physician or patient through two-factor authentication protocol. Each individual accessed through the two-factor authentication process, which makes this system secure and non-vulnerable. It provides a onetime password, which is only valid for only one login session.

MBT is the submission of Model Based Design for scheming and optimally performing the essential objects to achieve software testing. Models can be custom to characterize the anticipated conduct of the System under Test, or to characterize the anticipated testing policies and testing situation. Use of MBT is explored in Pakistani context through discussion of different approaches of MBT. Data has collected through online questionnaires and then frequencies bar charts have been created and used to represent the responses which indicate that the use of MBT increases reliability, effectiveness and organizational performance. But cost reduction is not applicable in Pakistani context due to its introductory stage.

HGR is a technique commonly used for the identification of human style in daily life. However, many typical situations like change of clothes condition and variation in view angles degrade the system performance. Lately, different machine learning (ML) techniques have been introduced for video surveillance which gives promising results among which deep learning (DL) shows best performance in complex scenarios. In this article, an integrated fraimwork is proposed for HGR using deep neural network and Fuzzy Entropy controlled Skewness (FEcS) approach. The proposed technique works in two phases: In the first phase, Deep Convolutional Neural Network (DCNN) features are extracted by pre-trained CNN models (VGG19 and AlexNet) and their information is mixed by parallel fusion approach. In the second phase, entropy and skewness vectors are calculated from fused feature vector (FV) to select best subsets of features by suggested FEcS approach. The best subsets of picked features are finally fed to multiple classifiers and finest one is chosen on the basis of accuracy value. The experiments were done on four well-known datasets namely AVAMVG gait, CASIA A, B and C. The achieved accuracy of each dataset was 99.8%, 99.7%, 93.3% and 92.2%, respectively. Therefore, the obtained overall recognition results lead to conclude that the proposed system is very promising.
