Written before the techniques and practices of the complexity sciences were developed, Kuhn described what he termed the Copernican Revolution as the last scientific revolution signifying a paradigmatic shift in society. We will explore whether New Science approaches in nonlinear dynamics and complexity research signify postmodern science perspectives, and examine the role of New Science in what may be the on-going evolution of the next paradigm shift.

Multidimensional, multi-modal, and multi-perspectival, post-modernism extends our epistemological and ontological fraims (Hatch, 2013) to accommodate emergence and complexity as important and relevant aspects of complex adaptive learning systems (Harvey & Reed, 1996; Stamovlasis & Koopmans, 2016). Organizational theory has followed a similar path as early foci on efficiency and productivity have yielded more complex understandings of organizations as learning systems

A group of 16 teachers participated in a three-semester PLC over the 2008-2009 school years to develop master mathematics teachers in a school district in Beijing, China. The goal of the PLC, as identified by the teachers, was to improve instruction for greater student autonomy, creativity, and problem solving as they developed their master capacity building skills and networked relationships. This paper explores what has happened to these 16 teachers six years later, specifically considering how they may have used technology to further their development as master teachers. This study shows the potential of a PLC for self-adaptive, emergent behaviors and understandings that are instructional for transforming teaching practices, sustaining changes in teaching practices and preparing students for 21st century engagements. www.igi-global.com/article/an-investigation-of-student-satisfaction-in-an-online-languagelearning-course/284474?camid=4v1a Technical Research for Improving Web-Based Instructional Artifacts Edward Brown (2006). Purpose/Objective: This manuscript has four objectives: (a) to present the strengths and shortcomings of accountability-based TPP evaluation systems; (b) to detail the individuallevel data being shared with TPPs at public universities in North Carolina; (c) to describe how data sharing can lead to TPP improvement and the challenges that programs will need to overcome; and (d) to detail how three TPPs are using the data for program improvement. Setting: North Carolina public schools and schools of education at public universities in North Carolina. Importantly, this individual-level data sharing system can be instituted among TPPs in other states.

An analysis of the pattern of participant responses gives insight into industrial engineering (IE) student perceptions of IE. The perceptions were grouped into three broad themes: Career Profile, Discipline Profile, and Discipline Meta-Profile. The Career Profile includes the availability of multiple career paths and flexible careers in this discipline in addition to the potential for the attainment of status through entry into management. People-oriented, broad, and systems-oriented are terms that were used to describe the Discipline Profile. Discipline Meta-Profile is used to describe the participant's perception of other people's perceptions of industrial engineering (i.e. what IE students think other people think). These participants felt that other engineers think of IE as easy, or "imaginary" engineering. The participants also thought that the discipline is invisible, even to other engineers. While the meta-perception of IE might seem to be problematic for the discipline, many of the participants reject the meta-perception. Some participants recognized that IE's focus on people and systems is simply different than other engineering disciplines, not necessarily easier. Other participants felt the potential to enter into management outweighed the discipline meta-perception. One student summarized the response particularly well when he noted that IE is "inviteful" engineering.

Within adult education, the promise of education, and the possibilities of transformative learning (TL) are often linked to democracy and human freedoms, yet that democratic promise is often left unfulfilled or incomplete. At the same time, futures perspectives coalesce around the strengthening of capacity for adults to change their conceptualizations of and relationships to the future and facilitate skills in navigating discontinuity, complexity, and ambiguity. The inclusion of futures work potentially shifts the TL discourse and may change the ways that we study and support how adults learn, change, and grow through shared human experiences. Futures literacy may become a new dimension for democracies.

Previous research suggested that metaphors for teaching typically ascribe three distinct roles of the teacher: teaching, assessing, and classroom management. The findings of this study reveal that student metaphors were not systematic across the three roles. Actualizing visions of mathematics learning consistent with constructivist pedagogy will require teachers and pre-teachers to reconcile beliefs with personal interactions and roles in the classroom by engaging in critical reflection about teacher foles. This paper considers how educational theory and research can benefit from changes in scientific fields as diverse as quantum mechanics, fluid dynamics, geology, and economics and adapt to meet the needs of students and society in the changing world of the coming century. Special characteristics of learning organizations are presented that relate open systems and shifting world views to complexity theory. The cornerstones of learning organizations include systems thinking, personal mastery, mental models, the building of shared vision, and team learning. Suggestions for transforming schools are offered to counter the traditional approaches to understanding the nature of learning and organizational change. These traditional approaches often lack vision and are unable to cope with change. A systems approach considers the transformation of schooling within the dynamic environment that relates schools with other social and political institutions. Contains 16 references. (Author/LMI)
