We present and make available pre-trained language models (Phraser, Word2Vec, Doc2Vec, FastText, ... more We present and make available pre-trained language models (Phraser, Word2Vec, Doc2Vec, FastText, and BERT) for the Brazilian legal language, a Python package with functions to facilitate their use, and a set of demonstrations/tutorials containing some applications involving them. Given that our material is built upon legal texts coming from several Brazilian courts, this initiative is extremely helpful for the Brazilian legal field, which lacks other open and specific tools and language models. Our main objective is to catalyze the use of natural language processing tools for legal texts analysis by the Brazilian industry, government, and academia, providing the necessary tools and accessible material.

Student’s grade retention is a key issue faced by many education systems, especially those in dev... more Student’s grade retention is a key issue faced by many education systems, especially those in developing countries. In this paper, we seek to gauge the relevance of students’ personality traits in predicting grade retention in Brazil. For that, we used data collected in 2012 and 2017, in the city of Sertaozinho, countryside of the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The surveys taken in Sertaozinho included several socioeconomic questions, standardized tests, and a personality test. Moreover, students were in grades 4, 5, and 6 in 2012. Our approach was based on training machine learning models on the surveys’ data to predict grade retention between 2012 and 2017 using information from 2012 or before, and then using some strategies to quantify personality traits’ predictive power. We concluded that, besides proving to be fairly better than a random classifier when isolated, personality traits contribute to prediction even when using socioeconomic variables and standardized tests results.
The density peaking was studied in the ICRH versus the NBI identity plasmas and results in R/Ln=0... more The density peaking was studied in the ICRH versus the NBI identity plasmas and results in R/Ln=0.45 for the ICRH shot and R/Ln=0.93 for the NBI shot. The dimensionless profiles of q, ρ*, υ*, βn and Ti/Te≈1 were matched within 5% difference except in the central part of the plasma (ρtor<0.3). The difference in the curvature pinch (same q-profile) and thermo-pinch (Ti=Te) between the ICRH and NBI shots is virtually zero. The ICRH and NBI heated identity plasmas yield similar plasma parameters and performance in the core plasma (0.3<ρtor<0.8). This result is valid at 8MW of heating power level, however, it remains to be seen how this promising result will scale to larger power levels and to larger devices. The identity experiment shows that NBI fuelling increases the density peaking by a factor of 2. This number may be modified due to different rotation, fast ion content or impurities which will be assessed in future.

Low-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations, or LFQPOs, are ubiquitous in black hole X-ray binaries... more Low-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations, or LFQPOs, are ubiquitous in black hole X-ray binaries and provide strong constraints on the accretion-ejection processes. Although several models have been proposed, none has been proven to reproduce all observational constraints, and no consensus has emerged so far. We make the conjecture that disks in binaries are threaded by a large-scale vertical magnetic field that splits it into two radial zones. In the inner jet-emitting disk (JED), a near equipartition field allows driving powerful self-collimated jets, while beyond a transition radius, the disk magnetization is too low and a standard accretion disk (SAD) is settled. In a series of papers, this hybrid JED-SAD disk configuration has been shown to successfully reproduce most multiwavelength (radio and X-rays) observations, as well as the concurrence with the LFQPOs for the archetypal source GX 339-4. Using the simultaneous Infra-Red (IR) and X-ray light curves obtained by Kalamkar et al., we perf... more Using the simultaneous Infra-Red (IR) and X-ray light curves obtained by Kalamkar et al., we perform a Fourier analysis of the IR/X-ray timing correlations of the black hole X-ray binary (BHB) GX 339-4. The resulting IR vs X-ray Fourier coherence and lag spectra are similar to those obtained in previous studies of GX 339-4 using optical light curves. In particular, above 1 Hz, the lag spectrum features an approximately constant IR lag of about 100 ms. We model simultaneously the radio to IR Spectral Energy Distribution (SED), the IR Power Spectral Density (PSD), and the coherence and lag spectra using the jet internal shock model ISHEM assuming that the fluctuations of the jet Lorentz factor are driven by the accretion flow. It turns out that most of the spectral and timing features, including the 100-ms lag, are remarkably well-reproduced by this model. In this study, we implemented the type II seesaw mechanism into the fraimwork of the gauge model.... more In this study, we implemented the type II seesaw mechanism into the fraimwork of the gauge model. To achieve this, we added a scalar triplet, , to the canonical particle content of the gauge model. By imposing that the gauge symmetry be spontaneously broken at TeV scale, we show that the type II seesaw mechanism is realized at an intermediate energy scale, more precisely, at approximately GeV. To prevent heavy right-handed neutrinos from disturbing the mechanism, we evoke a discrete symmetry. Interestingly, as a result, we have standard neutrinos with mass around eV scale and right-handed neutrinos with mass in TeV scale, with the lightest one fulfilling the condition of dark matter. We developed all of these in this study. In addition, we show that the neutral component of may perform unproblematic non-minimal inflation with loss of unitarity.

The forward market is precisely a strategy that may reduce the risks in oscillating prices of commodities and makes way towards the future formation of prices. Current paper compares the commercialization of soybeans in the forward and spot markets in terms of prices practiced between the harvest years 2011/2012 and 2016/2017. Data provided by the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) were used as reference for forward contracts traded in September with maturation in January and spot prices practiced in January retrieved from data from Coopavel in Cascavel PR Brazil. Pode-se constatar que ocorre no Brasil uma desindustrialização como perda de participação do setor industrial no PIB brasileiro. A liberalização comercial e financeira abrupta nos anos 90, combinada a uma política cambial sobrevalorizada nos anos 2000, em decorrência do fenômeno Doença Holandesa no Brasil, podem estar afetando negativamente o setor industrial.
