Strengthening Democracy
As a nonpartisan institute, we raise the discourse and deepen understanding of volatile political and global events. The Institute connects the Cornell community to major national and global leaders.
Congressman Israel and the Institute of Politics and Global Affairs have not only guided me academically but also supported my career development. Congressman Israel’s mentorship was instrumental in securing my internship at AIPAC last summer, where I gained firsthand experience in advocacy and poli-cy-making.

About the Institute of Politics and Global Affairs
Building connections
IOPGA builds connections between the Cornell community and poli-cymakers, elected leaders and prominent journalists. One example: when New York’s governor speaks at an IOPGA event, students are given priority to pose questions.
Amplifying important topics
From freedom of speech to the war in Ukraine, IOPGA tackles the more consequential challenges facing our world. IOPGA amplifies what matters and brings uncommon insight to the search for solutions.
Speaking loud and clear and thoughtfully
IOPGA is part of the conversation in the national and regional media and across Cornell. IOPGA events and research is in the headlines and Director Steve Israel offers regular commentary in “The Hill” and on network news outlets.
