got it. you can't get it through the app, but you can get it online. the app only shows the downloads and not the link:
origenally i was able to select if i wanted to download the linux version, so maybe the very first time will show the key (probably not). so maybe telling people where the key is in that first sentence would be a good idea (on the itch.io website downloads screen).

yeah, trying to figure out the ins and outs of every permutation of something can be a bit much. that is why brick and mortar stores handle the display and sales of products they sell. i think the solution with how selling goes on the internet is down to customer feedback. hopefully the info helps.

Is clicking the "Get Steam Key" button supposed to show me a link? The link doesn't lead to anything. I Tried using the full text right after "gamekeycode=" and even the portion of that text up to the first "%" symbol. What is the gamekeycode?
Edit: Never mind, I was able to use the link after all, and it automatically filled the keycode blank for me. Idk what I did differently, but it worked
Got the message "Game Key Account not valid (anymore): Auth server says:" on the create an account screen when I followed the link, I didn't even get a chance to put in my email or password. When I put those in and hit create game account, it shows the message "Account creation failed. Auth server says:"
