Micromechanics based technique of material homognization, and determination of fracture plane in advance composites

This paper presents a systematic micromechanical approach for homogenization of composite materia... more This paper presents a systematic micromechanical approach for homogenization of composite material properties and the determination of fracture plane when the material is subjected to transverse compression loading. Representative volume element (RVE) are used in the analysis. In this work, four RVEs with random distribution of fibers are used for analysis. A detailed micromechanical homogenization is performed and comparison is made with existing literatures. The concept of stress and strain concentration factor is also applied while determining homogenized material properties. Up on application of boundary conditions on RVEs, nine different loadings scenarios are applied and the mechanical response of the material in terms of damage and fracture at fracture plane is studied. Emphasize is given to the fracture behavior of RVE matrix material when subjected to transverse compressive (E22 and E33) loading condition. Finally the material properties obtained from current micromechanics approach is compared with the result obtained by standard mechanics approach by Koley et al. and experimental result by Sodan et al. which shows very close relation and in more confident range of values. The fracture plane angle when RVE subjected to transverse compression loading is also compared with analytical result of Puck and Schürmann. The value obtained from current micromechanical analysis shows accurate result with consistent procedure.

This paper deals with the response of symmetric laminated composite plate subjected to distribute... more This paper deals with the response of symmetric laminated composite plate subjected to distributed load. The finite element modeling tools applied to this work is ABAQUES/CAE which is used to model and perform finite element analysis on the plate of a four ply laminate sequence of [0 0 /90 0 ] s. The response of the plate to the uniformly distributed load was analyzed and validated through calculations with the help of MATLAB coding in coherence with a classical laminate theory (CLT) or Kirchhoff love th bending. A detailed and comprehensive mathematical classical laminate theories are also developed. element analysis (FEA) have been validated, an investigation on the effects of the fiber orientation to the displacement value was conducted for different stacking sequence of symmetric four layup. In addition this paper reveal the effect of stacking sequence on bending stiffness.
