2. New SEDI Officers

At the Sapporo General Assembly, the new officers of the Inter Associations Committee on the Study of Earth's Deep Interior (SEDI) were selected. The new Chair is Dr. Bruce Buffett (Canada/USA) and the Vice-Chair is Dr. Gauthier Hulot (France). Michael Bergman (USA) will continue as SEDI Secretary General.


3. IAG Presents their Levallois Medal and Bomford Prize

At the Sapporo General Assembly, the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) presented the Levallois Medal to George Veis (Greece) in recognition of his distinguished service to the science of geodesy. IAG also presented the Bomford Prize to Ramon Hanssen, Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands. The Guy Bomford Prize is awarded to a young scientist or to a team young scientists for outstanding theoretical or applied contributions to geodetic studies, particularly in the four-year period preceding the General Assembly at which the award is made.


4. Australia National Report added

The report of 1999-2002 activities of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy, a section of the National Report from Australia, has been added to the IUGG web page under National Committee Reports.


5. IUGG-related meetings occurring during October - December 2003

A calendar of meetings of interest to IUGG disciplines (especially those organized by IUGG Associations) is posted on the IUGG Web Site [www.IUGG.org]. Specific information about these meetings can be found there. Individual Associations also list more meetings on their web sites appropriate to their disciplines.
