Ludus reticularum episcopalium[1], vulgo lacrosse[2] est ludus athleticus in America Septentrionali ortus.

Nomen vulgare Francogallicum huic ludo datum est a sacerdote Francogallico Ioanne de Brébeuf[3] anno 1636 propter similitudinem inter crocias et manubria quibus indigeni Americani uti solebant; "crocia" baculum episcopale Latine significat, unde Francogallice venit "crosier" sive "la crosse"[4].
