Oxytocinum (Oxt) est hormon et neuropeptidum, quod in hypothalamo perficitur, praecursor inactivus liberatus, tum per axones intracellulariter portatur in lobum hypophysis posteriorem, in quo liberatio ex vesiculis in sanguinem fit. Secundum definitionem hormontum oxytocinum effectus suos procul ab loco secretionis suae perficit.

Hormon est essentialis partus (ut contractionum uteri)[1] et secretionis lactis (lactationis)[2], adstringionis socialis, puerperii[3].
