Located in the Basement of the Special Collections Research Center, the King Library Press offers lectures, one-day workshops, and apprenticeship opportunities to students and community members interested in fine printing and the book arts.

The Press was founded in 1956 when Carolyn Reading Hammer and several other librarians began spending their lunch hours printing books in the basement of King Library. Since then, the KLP has produced dozens of books, broadsides, keepsakes, and other ephemera on its numerous hand-operated presses. The Press is dedicated to keeping the tradition of fine printing alive in Lexington, and conducts every aspect of the publishing process by hand, from typesetting and printing to decorative paper design and book binding.

The Press is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from morning to early afternoon.
