Avengers: Doomsday is getting closer to its release date as the days go by. While Marvel has remained tight-lipped about what will happen in the movie and who will appear, there is now some information about Marvel's next that you may want to know about. From directors to the cast, here's what we kn0w about Avengers: Doomsday so far.
Robert Downey Jr. is Dr. Doom
Perhaps the biggest news to come out of this movie so far, actor Robert Downey Jr. is making his MCU return to play one of Marvel's biggest villains Victor Von Doom aka Dr. Doom. The villain, who is typically an adversary for Fantastic Four and Reed Richards, has also had his run ins with Marvel's greatest superhero team on multiple occasions.
The character rules the fictional European nation of Latveria, and possesses a genius level intellect alongside enough magical abilities that can rival, and even exceed, Doctor Strange's powers. While it remains unclear if RDJ's Doom is the actual Doom or a multiversal variant, it will be interesting to see how the character fits in to the MCU given RDJ and Tony Stark's legacy in the universe.
The Russo Brothers are returning
Robert Downey Jr. isn't the only one returning to the MCU. Director duo Anthony and Joe Russo are also making their MCU return with Avengers: Doomsday. The duo had last directed Avengers: Endgame in 2019 and have been instrumental in Marvel's cinematic successes in the past.

The duo will also direct the next Avengers film in the franchise, Avengers: Secret Wars which will release sometime in 2027. The directors shared that they were working on another project with Robert Downey Jr. when Marvel approached them for a return. Their last Marvel outing, Avengers: Endgame earned over $2.7billion at the worldwide box office.
The film will feature Fantastic Four
It's obvious that with the introduction of Dr. Doom, Marvel would also have his arch nemesis and leader of the Fantastic Four Reed Richards and other Fantastic Four characters make an appearance in the movie. While Marvel has officially announced the cast for The Fantastic Four: First Steps which is slated for a release this year, reports in the media suggest the team will also be a part of Avengers: Doomsday.

Actor Pedro Pascal is set to play Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic while Vanessa Kirby will play Sue Storm/Invisible Woman. Elsewhere, Ebon Moss-Bachrach is confirmed to play The Thing and Joseph Quinn will portray Johnny Storm/Human Torch. It is also rumored that the Fantastic Four film will feature Dr. Doom in some capacity.
Doctor Strange won't feature in the film
Actor Benedict Cumberbatch confirmed in an interview that he won't feature in the next Avengers movie as the film's plot doesn't align with the Doctor Strange. Reports suggest that he will be a part of Avengers: Secret Wars and play a prominent role in the film's story. In the comics, Doctor Strange has had run ins with Dr. Doom on several occasions. Dr. Doom at one point was even the Sorcerer Supreme (a title held by Strange). In the comics, Strange has also said that Dr. Doom can perform spells even he doesn't know of.

Other characters slated to appear in the movie include The Thunderbolts. Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier will also appear in the movie. Reports suggest that Anthony Mackie's Captain America will also play a role in the movie. However, the biggest rumor suggests actor Chris Evans who played Steve Rogers will also be involved in the movie in some capacity. However, we don't know what role he will play.
With that, we've covered everything we know so far about the movie. With an extensive cast as well as other MCU characters making an appearance in the movie, it will be interesting to see how Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars would play out. As things stand, Avengers: Doomsday is set for a May 2026 release.
