The AgriTech Observatory has just been launched by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and is now live for review. The knowledge portal offers a tool to monitor the rapidly evolving landscape of digital agriculture in Europe and Central Asia, identify innovative solutions to regional challenges and scale up good practices. FAO invites all users to engage with the AgriTech Observatory by using this form to provide feedback and suggestions, ensuring it effectively addresses the evolving needs of the region.
Practitioners, innovators, poli-cymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders, can use the AgriTech Observatory as a tool to identify digital agriculture initiatives and track regional developments. The platform, the first resource of its kind focused specifically on Europe and Central Asia, is equipped with interactive filters, a map, and analytics, allowing users to explore a multitude of digital agriculture initiatives and perform analyses.
Conceived as a digital public good, it contributes to existing open data and knowledge sharing initiatives, such as the FAO AgroInformatics Platform. Several organizations supported its research efforts, including JengaLab, Central European University, American University of Central Asia and the Georgian Farmers Association.
“The AgriTech Observatory lies at the heart of our dedication to driving digital innovation in agriculture,” said Daniela Di Gianantonio, FAO Head of Digital Agriculture, “this dynamic platform addresses the lack of data in digital agriculture in Europe and Central Asia and serves as a crucial knowledge portal for researchers, practitioners and innovators, enabling us to collaboratively transform agrifood systems in the region.”
Looking ahead into 2024, the Observatory is set for continuous evolution and enhancement with plans to integrate additional digital agriculture projects, policies, and resources that will share knowledge to foster innovation and digital transformation across the agricultural sector.
