Rose Atoll Marine National Monument

Rose Atoll Marine National Monument is one example of a Marine Protected Area. The Monument area consists of approximately 13,436 square miles (34,800 square kilometers) and the outer boundary is approximately 50 nautical miles from the mean low water line of Rose Atoll. The two islands that make up the atoll are approximately 24 acres and have a maximum elevation of 10 feet above sea level. Photo credit: NOAA
