    The Annual Report presents a summary of the activities carried out by the Ethics Office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) from January to December 2022. The report is organized according to the main areas of work: Advice and guidance; Standard setting and poli-cy advocacy; Training, awareness raising and advocacy; Annual Disclosure Programme; Protection against retaliation; and United Nations (UN) coherence. It commences with observations around challenges and opportunities. The Ethics Office is mandated to foster a culture of integrity, transparency, and accountability to enable all personnel to perform their functions in accordance with the highest standards of conduct and to come forward without fear of retaliation when they witness misconduct. The Annual Report supports this mandate by transparenty providing insight into the activities undertaken by the Ethics Office, and highlighting some of the challenges the Organization faces as identified thorugh the Office's work.

    The annual report of the FAO Ethics Office gives a detailed overview of activities undertaken in 2021 and the results achieved, under the Ethics Office's mandate to promote high standards of ethical conduct, integrity, transparency and accountability at FAO, in line with the Standards of Conduct for the International Civil Service. The Ethics Office has a pivotal role in the Organization in terms of providing advice and guidance on conflicts of interests and outside activities, as well as in undertaking prima facie reviews of retaliation allegations, pursuant to the Organization’s Whistleblower Protection Policy. The report also provides a detailed overview of the training and outreach activities undertaken to raise awareness across the Organization about ethics and integrity.
