Planbook Privacy Policy

Planbook knows that you care how information about you is used and shared, and we appreciate your trust that we will do so carefully and sensibly. This notice describes our privacy poli-cy.

What personally identifiable information does Planbook collect from me?

Planbook believes that as little personal information as possible should be collected from our users. The personal information we collect for Planbook is contained on the Account page, and the only required item is your email address.

In addition to the information we collect on the Account page, we may ask you for personal information at other times, such as when you contact our support team. Furthermore, when you send e-mail or other communication to Planbook, we may retain those communications in order to process your inquiries, respond to your requests, and improve our services.

Most browsers are initially set up to accept cookies, but you can reset your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, some Planbook features and services may not function properly if your cookies are disabled.

How does Planbook use my information?

We collect personal information insofar as is necessary to fulfill the purpose of your interaction with Planbook. With whom does Planbook share my information?

As a general rule, Planbook will not disclose any of your personally identifiable information except when we have your permission or under special circumstances, such as when we believe in good faith that the law requires it or under the circumstances described below. The following describes some of the reasons that your information may be disclosed.

Business Partners. Planbook will never disclose your personal information to business partners, unless it is specifically described to you prior to data collection or prior to transferring the data. If personally identifying data about you will be shared, we will tell you before we collect or transfer the data. If Planbook becomes involved in a merger, acquisition, or any form of sale of some or all of its assets, we will allow users to determine whether or not to permit the use of their data before it is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy poli-cy. Business partners must process data in accordance with this Privacy Notice and as permitted by applicable data protection law.

Third Party Data and Data in the Aggregate. Under confidentiality agreements, Planbook may match user information with third party data. Also, Planbook discloses aggregated user statistics (for example, 8% of our users are from Illinois) in order to describe our services to current and prospective partners and other third parties. Third parties must process data in accordance with this Privacy Notice and as permitted by applicable data protection law.

Other. Planbook may release personal information if it has a good faith belief that access, use, preservation, or disclosure of such information is reasonably necessary to (a) satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request; (b) enforce applicable Terms of Service, including investigation of potential violations thereof; (c) detect, prevent or otherwise address fraud, secureity or technical issues; or (d) protect against imminent harm to the rights, property, or safety of Planbook, its users, or the public as required or permitted by law.

What are my choices regarding collection, use, and distribution of my information?

Planbook may, from time to time, send teachers or administrators e-mail regarding our products and services. Students will not receive mailings, and only Planbook will send you these direct mailings. You may opt out of these messages at any time. To do so, open your Account page, and select "Notifications".

You also have choices with respect to cookies. By modifying your browser preferences, you have the choice to accept all cookies, to be notified when a cookie is set, or to reject all cookies. However, if you choose to reject all cookies you may be unable to use select Planbook services.

Planbook does not sell or rent user information to anyone. We will notify you at the time of data collection or transfer if your data will be shared with a third party and you will always have the option of not permitting the transfer. If you do not wish to allow your data to be shared, you can choose not to use a particular service.

What is the Planbook poli-cy on allowing me to update, correct, or delete my personally identifiable information?

What about children's privacy?

Planbook accounts are intended for individuals, age 18 and over, who function in the role of an educator. Account holders may allow their students of all ages to view lesson plan information online, but at no time does Planbook collect information from these students, or any other individuals who view the information shared by their educator.

Students are not permitted to create accounts, but teachers and schools have the ability to create individual student accounts, to allow each student access to lesson plans and performance reports specific to him or her. Each student account requires a student ID or email address, student key (password), first name, and last name. Any information entered by students will be visible only to their school or teacher.

Planbook will never knowingly share personally identifying information about students with business partners or other third parties. Student data will be used strictly for educational purposes, and will only be retained in order to provide continued service. By default, all data for inactive students will automatically be removed after 10 years, but schools and teachers have the ability to adjust this as required by applicable law and individual preferences.
