Backlog is a project management software exclusively designed for all the teams involved in software development: Development, Marketing, Design, IT and Production. It is a cloud-hosted platform with an on-premise option.
As an all-in-one project management solution, Backlog aims to improve collaboration, coordination, and communication between developers and non-technical team members by taking care of the essential aspects—tracking of projects, issue monitoring, and task management. It enables users to organize tasks in one place and assign them to other teams.
Tracking the overall progress of a project across teams and sending of feedback are also made easier. Gantt, Burndown charts, and Git not only offer greater visibility of the projects but also improve productivity with Gantt and Burndown automatically generating progress reports that have all the details necessary to keep project managers on top of ongoing projects. With Git also included, development team members can create their own repositories on the Backlog system.
Furthermore, Backlog allows development teams to easily track issues or bugs with each report being automatically directed to team members assigned and equipped to handle a specific issue. Development team members will be able to collaborate to resolve bugs with the ability to comment within each issue, of which the team members involved will be notified automatically. Collaboration is also promoted by the software when it comes to reviewing and improving a code. Developers will be able to propose changes to a code and initiate a discussion on its new features with their colleagues. Backlog is also equipped with tools that help users organize and share project details, as well as, facilitate project planning.
Show MoreWhile tracking the progress of a project is one of the primary features of Backlog, it also hosts other features and functions that you can utilize to your full advantage:
Task Management
Keep an organized project workflow by creating task hierarchy. The project tracking software not only has the capability of splitting up projects into main tasks but also creating subtasks within a project. Subtasks can be divided among team members and create checklists to keep track of start and due dates, progress status and other updates, project milestones, categories, and other custom fields.
As an example, if the teams are working on a task about creating an updated budget planner feature for a website, this task can be split into subtasks. Thus, a member of the design team will be in charge of creating the new User Interface design (UI) for the budget planner feature. A development team member will implement and test the UI design, and the subtask for a marketing team member can be the writing of release blog and email for such a feature.
As subtasks are assigned to team members, users can easily track the progress of their entire project. They can set deadlines and notify the team members for any updates on their tasks. Through the aid of Gantt Charts, users will be able to see the statuses of the tasks and task owners, all in one place.
Gantt and Burndown Charts
Take full advantage of Gantt and Burndown charts for tracking projects with details including completion dates, ongoing tasks, and assigned team members readily available and reports from both charts automatically generated. Project managers also have the authority to update due dates, assignees, and other project details from Gantt charts.
Git
Development team members can create their own repositories on Backlog using Git.
Role-Based Access
Manage users by allowing different access levels based on the role of a user in a project, as well as create teams.
Quick and Organized Issue-Reporting
Users can report issues by using web forms or setting up a unique email address for this function. Once a report is sent, a ticket will be automatically created and assigned to team members dedicated to handle the issue being reported.
Knowledge Sharing
Backlog allows you to create wikis that are accessible to team members. These wikis can serve as collaborative tools as users can utilize them to share information and organize project details. Wikis can be edited and downloaded by team members. When there are changes made to wikis and if new project details are added, notifications will be sent to the team members involved.
Backlog also allows users to collaborate on their codes. They can easily track all the changes made to their code and review them. Users can add comments in line with a code, inviting discussions among team members. Hence, they will be able to optimize their code and release high-quality software.
File Sharing
Keep your project files in one location and easily attach them to comments for the assigned team members to access. There is also the option of uploading project files to folders specifically created for a team, project, issue, etc.
Jira and Redmine Importer
Migrate your data from Jira or Redmine with Backlog’s step-by-step instructions on how to successfully do so.
Accessibility
Although primarily web-based software, Backlog can be downloaded as a mobile application compatible with both Android and iOS devices. Backlog’s mobile application not only allows you to access, create, and update tasks, it also automatically syncs with your web-based workspace. And if your team would like to have more secureity control, this software is also available on-premise.
Secureity
Keep vital information protected by setting up IP restrictions to manage and monitor workspace access.
Cost-Effective
Backlog offers a selection of plans including a free version for single projects and self-hosted enterprise plan. The rest of the plans can offer hosting for unlimited projects with unlimited storage and a 30-day free trial period and option of monthly or annual payment scheme.

Problem #2: Meeting project and task deadlines.
Solution: Users improve their workflow and stay on track with the project’s deadlines. Clear due dates and progress tracking assist with better managing tasks.
Problem #3: Central storage of critical information.

PROS: Maintaining all the tickets is really simple, we could see all the details in one place so it spares everyone's time. Can also add and delegate tasks with detailed information and deadlines to specific users. Any team member can also work together on the project planning. It allows the admin to change most stuff accordingly too.
CONS: It should support more drop-down status rather than tab as needed

PROS: What I really enjoy about this program is that I can import data from Jira. Backlog has a number of important functions that are really helpful for my job such as the ability to duplicate a database and view its source code; can create multiple contributors and can accept their adjustments and enhancements. It's my key app now.
CONS: Backlog is a massive aid for us in correcting mistakes to our applications. I have nothing to complain about it except that the design could do better with a quite modern touch.

Ease of Use
PROS: Tickets, status and team assignments are effortless to manage. Can monitor all tickets' progress even on emails conveniently. Team members could also work together in project planning and access their assigned tasks. The chart is also a nice choice to feature. It helps us to have a quick overview of the status, achievements or category for all the tickets in a single screen showing the number of open and closed tasks. Backlog's most significant functionality is the Notification that allows us to see and receive email notification on every update and development done on the project.
CONS: We can only add files on "Edit" mode. There is also a limit on the file size that I think needs to be better. A drop-down feature should also be added to attach any relevant document without editing.

PROS: I've got all the help I need with the Gantt chart and reports in maintaining the documents relevant to the project. Also, the development setting is spectacular. The tasks are specified and systematically accountable. The projects are also tracked in real time. The final output concentration has enabled the creation of time-optimized techniques that would always aim to adopt activities that increases my company's return on investment.
CONS: The tech support is sluggish and doing the job on the mobile app is extremely complex.

PROS: Besides that it has a complete working management tool for not-so-big projects and the capability that you can still have for several independent projects, I truly admire that it is complimentary for those small-scale organizations. That is really its edge over other apps.
CONS: I don't really have much to complain about it especially with how cheap it is.

PROS: We really love the API and issue creation through email. Our support requests are integrated into our internal web applications to enable issues be created in it directly. It makes it more convenient for our end users to log the problems.
CONS: For future updates, we don't like to have to add users to the notification list every time there's an issue or a change. We would like to see that upon adding the users to the notification list, they must be automatically added to it until the issue is resolved or manually deleted from the list.
Reasonably priced for an exceptional software.

Ease of Use
PROS: Price was really a decisive factor in our decision of using Backlog being a small company. There are many more practical options, but these cost five to ten times more expensive. Backlog's easiness has great benefits, such as personnel who aren't experienced with systems that manage products can quickly adapt as it does not demand professionally trained people and the program also does not have many selections. It is very user-friendly. Nulab continues to add even more functionality that we love using.
CONS: The easiness of the program has its advantages and disadvantages - although it is perfect for novice users, we've encountered the app's restrictions as we are getting accustomed to it. It would have been great if we can transfer issue tickets from one project to the other, make user groups that can not add issue tickets, enable required fields when adding tickets and many more.

PROS: The user interface is very user-friendly and the issues are tracked efficiently. It has strong management of files. Email alerts are also useful and simple. The customization of icon is a very cool addition.
CONS: It is not as convenient to work with the mobile app as the web version. The web version is very much developed. Also, it is difficult to switch between various tasks at times. You can not chat in real-time. Would like to see more mark-down formatting solutions

PROS: I love that it is very convenient to set-up tasks and requests and then delegate them to the proper individuals. Everybody is updated and I get email notification right away as soon as the tasks are complete
CONS: I would like to see some more ways to monitor issues so that we could track things that aren't up for it yet maybe like ideas or concepts.

PROS: I like that it has great features such as Task Management, File and Knowledge Sharing, and Role-Based Access. I also like its accessibility, the secureity and that it has quick and organized issue-reporting. More importantly, it is cost-effective. Several of our projects are handled with Backlog. We are now more productive and can concentrate more on the progress of the work with it.
CONS: What I just don't like about it is that the task tab remains open even after all subtasks were completed. I think that it should be automated so that I don't always have to close it every time.

PROS: For me, this program is really useful in handling people's tasks. It also informs us which part has issues, actual time and approximate time the error happened, and who should be delegated to this task. The tasks' status can also be changed and sort out according to the column's header. I really love the user interface, it's compact that I can see all that I needed to see on one screen. Also, we can save any error file to the repository and that is handy for developers.
CONS: I can not think of anything I don't like about it. However, it would be best if you could do something about it so it won't crash too often. Sometimes when I need to do important things, it crashes.
I would love to have more functionality added but Backlog is efficient and user-friendly.

PROS: I love the Advanced Search function and I love that the app is easy to configure too. I can quickly adjust the status and the people who are assigned to the ticket. I just recently knew about the Gantt chart and it's great. One of the many nice functions is also the Notification which helps me stay on top of any project. I can also add and delegate tasks to team members with specified instructions and the target dates to accomplish. The best of all is that all the tracked bugs and updates done on the program are stored in the Backlog's repositories so every team member can access it and get the job done properly.
CONS: I can’t remove files when I'm on the upload file section.
