Anabel Fraga is a Computer Engineering professional. Previous to set aside in the academic work, she committed her efforts in the industry as UNIX Administrator (HP-UX, Digital Unix, and so forth), Application Administrator (SICAP, Comptel technology for Telecom companies), Windows Administrator, Project Management and Consultancy. Automatic Generation of Semantic Patterns using Techniques of Natural Language Processing

Within the discipline of natural language processing there are different approaches to analyze la... more Within the discipline of natural language processing there are different approaches to analyze large amounts of text corpus. The identification patterns with semantic elements in a text let us classify and examine the corpus to facilitate interpretation and management of information through computers. This paper proposes the development of a software tool that generates index patterns automatically using various algorithms for lexical, syntactic and semantic analysis of text and integrates the results into other projects in the area of research and other ontological formats. The algorithms in the system implemented various types of analysis in the context of natural language processing, so they can identify grammatical categories and semantic characteristics of words, making up index patterns. The results obtained correspond to a pattern list sorted by frequency of occurrence and take into account intermediate optional elements, which determine its relevance and usefulness to other projects. The developed system proposes a model of generation and storage of patterns, and a control interface that allows the specification of parameters and running reports.

SKYWare: The Unavoidable Convergence of Software towards Runnable Knowledge

There has been a growing awareness of deep relations between software and knowledge. Software, fr... more There has been a growing awareness of deep relations between software and knowledge. Software, from an efficiency oriented way to program computing machines, gradually converged to human oriented Runnable Knowledge. Apparently this has happened unintentionally, but knowledge is not incidental to software. The basic thesis: runnable knowledge is the essence of abstract software. A knowledge distillation procedure is offered as a constructive feasibility proof of the thesis. A formal basis is given for these notions. Runnable knowledge is substantiated in the association of semantic structural models (like ontologies) with formal behavioral models (like UML statecharts). Meaning functions are defined for ontologies in terms of concept densities. Examples are provided to concretely clarify the meaning and implications of knowledge runnability. The paper concludes with the runnable knowledge convergence point: SKYWare, a new term designating the domain in which content meaning is completely independent of any underlying machine.

Architects are often idealized as super heroes with a lot of qualities that are very infrequent in contemporary people. The Enterprise/Software Architect role could be assumed by a group of people able to manage the qualities needed by the role. But, a group or a single person must be taught and skilled for the discipline by training them using new learning methodologies or even by traditional university classes. In order to improve the process of becoming a new architect we propose a new methodology based on synergic ontological structures and reinforcement learning that aids in the education process for new skilled architects.

Context: It is already common to compute quantitative metrics of requirements to assess their qua... more Context: It is already common to compute quantitative metrics of requirements to assess their quality. However, the risk is to build assessment methods and tools that are both arbitrary and rigid in the parameterization and combination of metrics. Specifically, we show that a linear combination of metrics is insufficient to adequately compute a global measure of quality. Objective: In this work we propose to develop a flexible method to assess and improve the quality of requirements that can be adapted to different contexts, projects, organizations and quality standards, with a high degree of automation. Method: The domain experts contribute with an initial set of requirements that they have classified according to their quality, and we extract their quality metrics. We then use machine learning techniques to emulate the implicit expert's quality function. We provide also a procedure to suggest improvements in bad requirements. Results: We compare the obtained rule-based classifiers with different machine learning algorithms, obtaining measurements of effectiveness around 85%. We show as well the appearance of the generated rules and how to interpret them. Conclusion. The method is tailorable to different contexts, different styles to write requirements, and different demands in quality. The whole process of inferring and applying the quality rules adapted to each organization is highly automated.

The tool receives a bitmap file (in different formats) as an input and communicates whether the image corresponds to a diagram. For pragmatic reasons, we restricted ourselves to the simplest kinds of diagrams that are more useful for automated software reuse: computer-edited 2D representations of static diagrams. The tool does not require that the images are explicitly or implicitly tagged as UML diagrams. In this paper, a Software Architecture knowledge representation is created, for that purpose a manual and automatic methodology for creating it is used. A new manual methodology is provided in the paper. CAKE (Computer Aided Knowledge Environment) is the automatic process used as automatic methodology. The result is the first thesaurus in English for the Software Architecture Domain using the new manual methodology presented in the paper and the first ontology in Spanish for the Software Architecture Domain using the automatic methodology.

This paper presents a new perspective of reuse based on improved retrieval techniques for semantic content (knowledge). This approach, called Universal Knowledge Reuse Methodology (UKRM), drops the investment costs needed in systematic reuse, including the cost of traceability in the process, and reduces the chaos of ad-hoc reuse. UKRM makes reuse independent of the type of content, the context where it will be reused, and even the user that demands it. The paper includes an incremental experiment in order to validate the feasibility of this proposal.

This Knowledge Base drives the quality assessment and directs the requirement authors to the areas that can be improved. The updated specification feeds back into the Knowledge Base thereby institutionalizing continuous process improvement into Alstom. The case study has been developed by means of a Proof of Concepts using the RQS suit tools to gather the knowledge (KM), analyse the quality (RQA) and authoring requirements (RAT).

The Requirements Engineering (RE) discipline has been promoted, implemented and deployed for more... more The Requirements Engineering (RE) discipline has been promoted, implemented and deployed for more than 20 years through standardization agencies (ISO/IEC, IEEE) and national/international organizations (such as INCOSE). Ever since, despite an increasing maturity, RE remains a discipline unequally understood and implemented, even within the same organization. Problems found in current Systems Engineering projects with focus in RE could be mitigated using quality metrics in the process. Quality metrics aids in the process of writing good requirements by following a reference guide. INCOSE has promoted and published a guide for writing good requirements, with support of several industrial and academic partners. The more correct, complete and consistent a requirement is, the best performance it will have, and fewer errors will occur in system developments and operation. This paper presents a study where a set of the published INCOSE rules have been implemented in a tool for assessing requirements quality.

If we consider academic papers as a kind of scientific 'currency' that is backed by gold bullion in the central bank of 'true' science, then we are witnessing an article-inflation phenomenon, a scientometric bubble that is most harmful for science and promotes an unethical and antiscientific culture among researchers.

If we apply this concept in computer science, knowledge could be a powerful asset to store (as remember) and reuse (as adapt). Knowledge could be structured using different kinds of Knowledge Organization Systems (KOS), but in all the cases the metamodel is important to be known in order to match with consistency the diverse kinds of knowledge. If it is possible to index any kind of knowledge stored as a KOS in a repository, it means that knowledge coming from diverse sources could be merged in a unique repository. The merge activity is important in the Reuse process because it makes possible to trace different pieces of knowledge at the end it will be retrieved improving the Reuse process and reducing costs at last. A method for indexing structured knowledge is described as well as the algorithms and practical examples in case of the metamodel describing the knowledge is not available.

Findings are sliced as thin as salami and submitted to different journals to produce more papers. If we consider academic papers as a kind of scientific 'currency' that is backed by gold bullion in the central bank of 'true' science, then we are witnessing an article-inflation phenomenon, a scientometric bubble that is most harmful for science and promotes an unethical and antiscientific culture among researchers.

Knowledge is one of the main assets that humans have, the knowledge achieved in one area may be a... more Knowledge is one of the main assets that humans have, the knowledge achieved in one area may be applied in another different area; all that you need is to remember it and adapt it to the new area or problem. If we apply this concept in computer science, knowledge could be a powerful asset to store (as remember) and reuse (as adapt). Knowledge could be structured using different kinds of Knowledge Organization Systems (KOS), but in all the cases the metamodel is important to be known in order to match with consistency the diverse kinds of knowledge. If it is possible to index any kind of knowledge stored as a KOS in a repository, it means that knowledge coming from diverse sources could be merged in a unique repository. The merge activity is important in the Reuse process because it makes possible to trace different pieces of knowledge at the end it will be retrieved improving the Reuse process and reducing costs at last. A method for indexing structured knowledge is described as well as the algorithms and practical examples in case of the metamodel describing the knowledge is not available.
