Explore the soundscape, and you find geographical boundaries. Some result from what we call the n... more Explore the soundscape, and you find geographical boundaries. Some result from what we call the natural world -water carving its paths, birds protecting their territory, animals locating each other for a host of purposes. Others, more the domain of this paper, are produced by the human species as it, too, defends territory, calls friends and mates, hunts, dances, and shapes culture. Most of what I talk about here will be familiar: my purpose is to weave variations on the theme of sound -and especially music -in its psycho-spatial dimensions.
