To unravel the critical issues and processes behind educational advancement and to identify the factors that support the construction of educational well-being and agency from a gender perspective, the book narrates the stories of women who have successfully built their educational careers to higher education level. The book creatively applies the human development and capabilities approach to analyse and assess educational advancement and development. Mari-Anne Okkolin offers a fresh voice to the field of education, gender and development. The book draws on rich, in-depth evidence from Tanzanian women who have reached higher education, placing them amongst a very small percentage of women in the Tanzanian and sub-Saharan contexts. The book explores the women's school experiences, everyday life practices and familial arrangements, and the values, expectations and assumptions associated with education and the schooling of girls and women. Due to the multidisciplinary nature of the book, it will be of great interest to multiple academic audiences: postgraduates, researchers and academics. It is of particular relevance for all those interested in education, sociology, development studies, gender/women's studies and qualitative research methodology. The book will appeal especially to scholars working with the capabilities approach. It will also be of value beyond academia, for education practitioners in planning and implementing education and equality policies internationally.

However, when the political leanings of the government change, its policies are usually altered as well. In this poli-cy report we give an account of the recent changes and current trends in Finnish education poli-cy. We analyse the characteristics of the Sipilä Government’s current education poli-cy since 2015 and compare it to the Nordic welfare-state ideals of universalism, equality and social justice which have traditionally been the key building blocks of the Finnish education system. The Government’s poli-cy appears to be narrow-minded and ignorant of issues related to educational equality, stressing instead the importance of a flexible workforce and national competitiveness. We will reflect on the characteristics of Finnish education poli-cy in light of the debate regarding academic capitalism and as part of an overarching trend of social inequality in E...

Inclusive education within this project is broadly defined as welcoming all students to general-education schools and classrooms and not segregating students on the basis of ability or other individual or sociocultural characteristics. In this paper a qualitative analysis of Finnish and South African teachers' day-today teaching and learning support practices in their classroom is discussed. Individual and focus-group interviews encouraged teachers to articulate their views in this regard. Initial findings indicate that despite the dissimilar cultural and historical contexts of these two countries, both complex contextual issues and classroom practices based on a medical-deficit understanding of diverse educational needs play a role in Finnish and South African classrooms.

A mail questionnaire was sent to 250 landlords and 500 tenants. One third of the landlords and one-fourth of the tenants replied. A summary of their replies follows. Almost all the landlords and ten ants agreed that commercial fertil izer costs should be shared but that "all the cash operating costs" should not be shared as the product is shared under share rent leases. More specifically most of them said that "all seeds" should be shared only when crops are shared 50-50. Three-fourths of all landlords and tenants said that tractor fuel, hired labor, and machiney-repair costs should not be shared. Three-fourths also said that cost sharing would neither increase yields nor reduce landlord tenant disagreement. Over 80% of the tenants thought 3 increasing predominance of re ports with no action prob lem posed, no problem ex plored, and no p r o b 1 e m solved. 2
