Women’s Soccer Holds No. 11 Auburn Scoreless in Draw

LEXINGTON, Ky. – In a tightly contested battle tonight, Kentucky women’s soccer (10-2-4, 2-2-4) remained undefeated at home holding No. 11 Auburn (12-1-3, 4-1-3) scoreless at the Bell Soccer Complex in a 0-0 draw. Kentucky is the only team to keep the Tigers off the scoresheet all season.

Although the Tigers had the advantage in shots 9-7, the visitors only managed one shot on goal in the entire match, a testament to the defensive effort from the Wildcats tonight. Kentucky led with two shots on goal while both sides earned three corner kicks.

The game, sometimes compared to a high-stakes game of chess, was set up by two tactical minds enjoying one of their best seasons within the Southeastern Conference. Auburn head coach Karen Hoppa and her side went toe to toe with Kentucky head coach Troy Fabiano and the Wildcats tonight matching each other stride for stride with very little room for mistakes.

The Wildcats had their opportunities however with Maddie Kemp putting an effort on target in the ninth minute forcing Auburn goalkeeper Maddie Prohaska into a save. Kentucky forced Prohaska into another save just 11 minutes later when Makala Woods was played into a 1v1 with the goalkeeper thanks to a great pass from Mia Bookhard. Woods, looking for her ninth goal of the season, tried to place the ball under her legs, but Prohaska made the necessary save for her side. Both teams entered the half at 0-0.

In the second half the game bounced back and forth in possession with both sides getting occasional looks at goal, including a shot from Alexis Tylenda in the 89th minute that sailed just above the crossbar, but the goal nets did not ripple at the Bell this evening in what was instead a highly defensive battle between the two teams.

Kentucky now travels for the final time this regular season to face No. 3 Mississippi State on Thursday, October 24th with a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff. Season tickets for all Kentucky soccer men’s and women’s home games can be purchased here, while single-game tickets are available here.
