No. 16 Kentucky Rolls Past Queens on Monday
Georgia Amoore scored 20 points and dished out four assists as No. 16 Kentucky cruised past Queens 87-45 on Monday night inside Historic Memorial Coliseum.
Amelia Hassett, who eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her career in the game, had a season-high 19 points for UK, while sophomore Clara Strack added 16 points. Teonni Key had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Kentucky scored the first four points of the game on a jumper by Hassett and a layup from Key. After Queens got on the board, Hassett hit a three to make it 7-2 Cats. The run would continue with a Strack fadeaway basket, an Amoore three, a Strack layup and two Lexi Blue free throws completed a 12-0 run that gave UK a 16-2 lead.
After Queens scored three in a row, UK got a layup and free throw from Amoore, a Key jumper and an Amoore three to lead 24-5. The Cats would lead 29-9 after 10 minutes of play.
The Kentucky onslaught continued early in the second quarter. UK got a Strack jumper, a Dazia Lawrence layup, another Strack basket and a Hassett three to assemble a 9-0 run and build a 38-9 lead. After a pair of Queens free throws, Hassett hit another three and the Cats led 41-11. After a Royals’ basket, Amoore hit three free throws to make it 44-13. Kentucky would lead 52-18. Amoore led the Cats with 14 points in the first half.
In the third quarter, Kentucky opened on an 8-4 run, including five points from Amoore, to lead 59-22. Queens would score four in a row before UK got a Blue layup, two Clara Silva free throws, two Hassett free throws and a free throw from Amoore to make it 66-26. Kentucky would continue to build the lead, and UK held a 76-29 advantage through three quarters.
Kentucky returns to action on Saturday, visiting Purdue. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. ET and the game can be seen on the Big Ten Network.
