Kendyl Brooks, former Charlotte Hornets coordinator of basketball operations, was hired as the University of Kentucky women’s basketball operations coordinator, it was announced by head coach Kenny Brooks in October.
Brooks arrives in Lexington after a season at the Charlotte Hornets as the coordinator of basketball operations in the scouting department (2023-24). As part of her job responsibilities, she traveled to NBA-sanctioned events and high schools to scout prospective talent. In doing so, she built a network of contacts to help her compile, create and submit scouting reports.
In that position, she also supported scouts and coaches in various functions, including correspondence, scheduling and travel. She also created and maintained a filing system, which included comprehensive information for scouts, trainers and the operations department. Moreover, Brooks helped coordinate numerous events for the Hornets, including the combine, training camp, draft day, workouts, games and tournaments.
Prior to her time with the Hornets, she spent a season with the Atlantic Coast Conference, serving with both operations and marketing and promotions (2022-23).
Brooks did a variety of things for the league office, from helping prepare regular-season policies and procedures and championship manuals to administering several areas of championship operations.
Her responsibilities included overseeing credential distribution, hospitality areas, signage, purchase orders, shipments, awards, research projects and some communications. During her time with the league office, she worked a variety of events, including the NCAA Men’s Basketball First and Second Rounds, the ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament and the ACC Baseball Championship to name a few.
Before then, Brooks began her career at her alma mater Virginia Tech.
She spent a short stint with the men’s basketball program as the director of on-campus recruiting and assistant to the chief of staff (2022). Before that, she was with the women’s basketball program, serving one season as the assistant director of operations (2021-22) and one season as the graduate assistant (2020-21).
Brooks played four seasons at Virginia Tech (2016-17 – 2019-20), helping her team earn a Women’s National Invitational Tournament runner-up finish, a school record amount of ACC wins and multiple winning seasons. As an individual, Brooks set the single-season freshman record for three-point field goals, while she also still sits on the top-10, three-point field goals career list. She was just the eighth person in Hokies history to make 100+ three-point field goals.
Brooks earned a bachelor of science in human development in May 2020 and a master of science in agricultural and life sciences, with a concentration on leadership studies, in August 2021, both from Virginia Tech.
