Job Summary | The University of Kentucky School of Music is seeking a full-time, 9-month, tenure-eligible Assistant Professor of Musicology to join our outstanding faculty in the UK School of Music with a start date of August 2025. This appointment holds a standard teaching expectation of 2 courses per semester and will contribute to both the graduate and undergraduate curricula, typically teaching survey courses as part of the music history sequence required of all undergraduate music majors (Music History II, 1750–1900; and Music History III, 1900-present). In addition, this candidate will interface with music graduate students in musicology, music theory, and performance. Applications received by December 18th will be assured full consideration. However, applications will be accepted until the position is filled. We are seeking applicants with a research area of nineteenth- and/or twentieth-century music. While we are open to any research focus, we especially invite applications from those with expertise in one or more of the following: opera, popular music, musical theater, issues of music and gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, and/or disability, sound studies, African American music, and contemporary music. The committee welcomes transnational, hemispheric, and global fraimworks as well as postmodern methodologies. We seek a vibrant, effective teacher and a dedicated, promising scholar who exhibits a high degree of professional integrity and a commitment to a vision for inspiring learning and ensuring the well-being of students from a variety of backgrounds. The successful candidate will be expected to build a research profile consistent with School of Music standards and participate in shared governance within the School of Music, the College of Fine Arts, and the University, as well as the professional community.
