This paper focuses on identifying trends in the subject of intelligent technologies, through systematic mapping to answer questions about the fields, research areas and types of intelligent technologies present in the literature. The mapping study was conducted using a review protocol and analyzing 367 scientific database records, using specialized bibliometric analysis software. The results can help to understand the prevailing needs and trends, identifying points that still require further research, since important aspects related to particular points such as the conceptual development of this topic and the emerging areas in the application of the same are important given the increase in publications and relevance of this topic in recent years.

Nowadays, projects under development seek the modernization of electric power generation and distribution systems. One of the main strategies is the design of context-adaptable micro-grid architectures. The micro-grid concept focuses on a controlled, monitored and highly autonomous use of electric power supported on information technologies, for the optimization of energy transfer, minimize risks and increase the system’s quality, efficiency and reliability. Goal: This article, therefore, aims to identify, classify and compare different micro-grid architectures, based on their applicability and research trends. Method: A systematic mapping study of micro-grid architectures is conducted to examine the experimental and theoretical contributions made by the scientific community. Results: This article categorizes and quantifies the different studies related to the subject, identif...

For nearly 3 decades emissions certification and legislation has been mainly focused on the landing and take-off cycle. Exhaust emissions measurements of NOx, CO and unburned hydrocarbons are taken at Sea Level Static (SLS) conditions for 4 different power settings (idle, descent, approach and take-off) and are consecutively used for calculating the total emissions during the ICAO landing and take-off cycle. With the global warming issue becoming ever more important, stringent emissions legislation is soon to follow, focusing on all flight phases of an aircraft. Unfortunately, emissions measurements at altitude are either extremely expensive, as in the case of altitude test facility measurements, or unrealistic, as in the case of direct in flight measurements. Compensating for these difficulties...

Experiments were conducted using commercial diesel, palm oil biodiesel and blends at 5% (B5), 20% (B20) and 50% (B50) as fuels. A phenomenological semi-empirical model that uses the information obtained from thermodynamic diagnostics was used for determining the theoretical NOx formation. The model shows the high sensitivity of NOx formation to the temperature and the operating conditions. Effects associated to the operating conditions of the engine were evaluated and the results indicate that high engine loads and low speeds lead to the NOx formation. However, it was not possible to determine with precision, the effect of the type of fuel, because of the high sensitivity of the NOx formation with respect to the operating conditions of the engine.

The Colombian government set a target of 20% reduction in GHG emissions by year 2030, for which the solid waste management sector has an important role to play. Also, the achievement of the targets of sustainable development goals (SDG) is playing a key role for the government agenda and will do so for the next years. In this context, there is an important room for improvement of the management alternatives in currently operative landfills in the country, especially in terms of measures to reduce fugitive air emissions and leachates. This paper evaluates, using life cycle assessment (LCA) methods, the environmental impacts associated with a landfill in Colombia under four different scenarios: open dumps (zero) and conventional landfill under three landfill gas (LFG) management alternatives: venting (a), flaring (b), and energy recovery (c). The impact categories as well as the life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) methods used were determined through the review of LCA studies for MSW management systems in developing countries. Main results show that global warming potential (GWP) was the main environmental impact caused by the landfill operation under the conditions considered; however, GWP was significantly reduced with the shifting from management scenarios with no LFG treatment (o and a: common to most landfills in developing countries) to scenarios where LFG is either flare (b) or utilized for energy production (c). These results suggest that adoption of technologies for LFG capture, burn, and energy recovery must be considered if important reductions of GHGs are expected from the waste management sector, as well as to provide economic incentives to improve the operational sustainability of landfills in developing countries.
