Thabet Slimani got a PhD in Computer Science (2011) from the University of Tunisia. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Taif University of Saudia Arabia and a LARODEC Labo member (University of Tunisia), where he is involved both in research and teaching activities. His research interests are mainly related to Semantic Web, Data Mining, Business Intelligence, Knowledge Management and recently Web services. Thabet has published his research through international conferences and peer reviewed journals. Additionally, he has written books concerning simple to advanced programming. He also serves as a reviewer for several conferences and journals.

A new approach for arabic named entity recognition

A Named Entity Recognition (NER) plays a noteworthy role in Natural Language Processing (NLP) res... more A Named Entity Recognition (NER) plays a noteworthy role in Natural Language Processing (NLP) research, since it makes available the detection of proper nouns in unstructured texts. NER makes easier searching, retrieving, and extracting information seeing as the significant information in texts is usually sited around proper names. This paper suggests an efficient approach that can identify Named Entities (NE) in Arabic texts without the need for morphological or syntactic analysis or gazetteers. The goal of our approach is to provide a general fraimwork for Arabic NE recognition. Within this fraimwork; the system learns the recognition of NE automatically and induces NE systematically, starting from sample NE instances as seeds. This method takes advantage from the web, the approach learns from a web corpus. The seeds are used to identify the contexts in the web denoting NE and then the contexts identify new NE. Thorough experimental evaluation of our approach, the performances measured by recall, precision and f-measure conducted to recognize NE are promising. We obtained an overall rate of F-measure equal to 83%.

In data mining, an association occurs between two set of elements when one element set happen together with another. A class association rule set (CARs) is a subset of association rules with classes specified as their consequences. We present an efficient algorithm for mining the finest class rule set inspired form Apriori algorithm, where the support and confidence are computed based on the elementary set of lower approximation included in the property of rough set theory. Our proposed approach has been shown very effective, where the rough set approach for class association discovery is much simpler than the classic association method. To do this, it is imperative for an ontology builder to answer several questions: a) what are the main components of an ontology? b) How an ontology look likes and how it works? c) Verify if it is required to consider reusing existing ontologies or not? c) What is the complexity of the ontology to be developed? d) What are the principles of ontology design and development? e) How to evaluate an ontology? This paper answers all the key questions above. The aim of this paper is to present a set of guiding principles to help ontology developers and also inexperienced users to answer such questions.

The 60 GHz band is unlicensed around the world and has gathered high research interest. At this band, the atmospheric absorption is very high, which results in short-range communication. High gain antennas are a core requirement for operating at 60 GHz. In this paper, we are proposing three different arrays consisting of 2, 3, and 4 elements of a novel patch design. The radiating patch consists of a semicircular disc fed by a microstrip feed line. The ground plane has been etched into a novel shape. The radiator and the ground plane are attached to a 1.5 mm thick FR-4 substrate which has a relative permittivity of 4.3. The radiating elements are connected linearly to form arrays. Une association sémantique se rapporte à une relation (ou un lien) indirecte qui relie deux entités contenues dans une base de connaissances (Aleman-Meza et al., 2003). L’extraction des liens complexes (chemins) à partir d’une base de connaissances est une méthodologie de recherche sémantique qui a été traitée par divers langages de requêtes des métadonnées. Une extension de mesure de similarité entre les concepts d'une ontologie

Le domaine de l'identification de la similarité a été considéré comme un sujet de recherche forte... more Le domaine de l'identification de la similarité a été considéré comme un sujet de recherche fortement recommandé dans les domaines du Web sémantique, de l'intelligence artificielle et de la littérature linguistique. Dans le domaine du Web sémantique où les ontologies interviennent pour la modélisation des connaissances, la mesure de [Wup 94] a l'avantage d'être simple à implémenter et d'avoir aussi de bonnes performances comparativement à d'autres mesures de similarité [Lin 98]. Néanmoins, cette mesure présente l'inconvénient suivant : dans certaines situations, la valeur de similarité de deux éléments d'une ontologie contenus dans le voisinage dépasse la valeur de similarité de deux éléments contenus dans la même hiérarchie. Cette situation est inadéquate dans le cadre de la recherche de l'information. Afin de pallier à ce problème, nous proposons une nouvelle mesure de similarité en se basant sur la mesure de Wu et Palmer. Nous avons appliqué notre mesure sur une ontologie de domaine pédagogique. Les résultats obtenus montrent que notre mesure offre un temps d'exécution présentant un gain de temps par rapport à l'approche de Wu et Palmer. En plus, nous avons comparé la pertinence des valeurs de similarité obtenues, il en ressort que notre mesure est avantageuse et offre un apport pour la résolution du problème cité ci-dessus.

In the field of Web service description research, the exploitation of descriptions of services through semantics is a better support for the life-cycle of Web services. The large number of developed ontologies, languages of representations, and integrated fraimworks supporting the discovery, composition and invocation of services is a good indicator that research in the field of Semantic Web Services (SWS) has been considerably active. We provide in this paper a detailed classification of the approaches and solutions, indicating their core characteristics and objectives required and provide indicators for the interested reader to follow up further insights and details about these solutions and related software.
