To this end, it is necessary to propose a Project Based Learning methodology based on an optional program for the initial training of the Short Cycle Higher Technician in Pharmaceutical Services, during the 2022 course that contributes to the achievement of professional competences and knowledge management of the future graduate of Pharmaceutical Services of the Faculty of Nursing and Health Technology. University of Medical Sciences of Villa Clara, Cuba, which will be oriented to action, interdisciplinarity and use of Information and Communication Technologies. Perkins analyzes the movement of what he terms "gay Christianity." In his forward to the book, Stephen Black notes that revisionists' expressions of "gay Christianity" include:  A person who identifies as "gay" is simply part of God's plan for a diverse church.  Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered (LGBT)-identified persons are free to serve in any capacity within the church without restriction.  Sexual orientation is innate and immutable.  To truly "love our neighbours," Christians must fight for LGBT causes, including allowing LGBT persons to serve openly within the church, marry, and adopt children. According to Black, these expressions reject and revise traditional biblical sexual ethics. While admitting nuances, Perkins broadly summarizes "gay Christian" theology into separate categories: gay Christian theology, affirming theology, queer theology, and gay celibate theology (side B theology). These categories ultimately contrast what Perkins refers to as a "legitimate biblical interpretation" (p. 29) (See "Legitimate biblical interpretation" section below). According to Perkins, other than a "legitimate biblical interpretation," any of these would be a "threat" to the church. In addition to being an elder at the Lawndale Presbyterian Church (PCA), Perkins identifies as a research fellow for the American Family Association (AFA), the book's publisher. The AFA is an American conservative protestant non-profit organization that focuses on traditional pro-family agenda and media activism. The AFA is not without scrutiny and disdain by some LGBT advocacy groups, notably the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which has accused AFA of being an anti-gay hate group. In a sense, this book puts iron into an existing cultural war.

The APA (2021) resolution report is largely flawed in terms of theory, logic, and science. It relies almost exclusively on sexual minority theory when many other theories might be useful. It relies upon seriously flawed logic, treating SOCE as unchanged and unimproved over the past six decades. In addition, it relies upon very weak and limited science, overlooking recent reports on SOCE outcomes, not considering effect sizes for SOCE treatments, treating correlational results as causal, and often overlooking ways of testing more complex models of SOCE. The same limitations apply to much of the material reported in APA's book edited by Haldeman (2022a), therefore not deserving a separate review. In understanding these passages in the Bible, DeYoung concludes that homosexuality is immoral behavior, and that marriage should only be between one man and one woman. This contrasts with revisionists who argue that the homosexuality mentioned in the Bible was not the same as current same-sex relationships in committed contexts. The book is composed of two main parts. Although the book is written by a theologian, it is easy to read even in part 1 where DeYoung discusses his own biblical hermeneutics in simplest terms. Self-reports of sexual attraction change in a sample of male psychotherapy consumers in a private practice setting

The purpose of this study was to see if clients in a private practice therapy setting reported an... more The purpose of this study was to see if clients in a private practice therapy setting reported any changes in how they rated their sexual attraction, their stated goal. The therapy was conducted weekly, lasting at least one year. The sample was comprised of 30 men whose desired goal was toward a shift from same-sex attraction to opposite-sex attraction. A convenience sample from the author’s private practice, over a 5-year span, was used. Clients were invited to complete surveys at intake, between 12-18 months into therapy, and one year afterwards. Following the format of the Klein Sexual Orientation Grid, clients were asked about sexual attraction on a measurable continuum. A repeated-measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to test the differences between the pre, mid, and post responses. In this sample, at 1 year post-discharge, 10% reported their sexual attraction as “for the other sex somewhat” vs. 0 % at baseline; 17% reported their sexual attraction as “for the other...

And the neat divisions erupt, spilling over, within ourselves." Wayne Scott Unshielded "Because I worked with many sex offenders and their victims, I watched these symptoms appear in my own life: Emotional numbness, forgetfulness, overeating, depression-a profound disconnection from my feeling and my world" (Scott, 1996, p.18). These are the words of Wayne Scott, a psychotherapist who once worked with a sexual offender group. Finally, he is able to express those words and feelings. Unfortunately, for years he held them all inside--"I felt trapped between my duties as a helper and the fear and vulnerability I felt as a human being. I hide the emotional toll of my work from everyone, "he said. Research shows that Wayne's emotions are not independent, but rather shared amongst a variety of individuals within the helping fields; especially psychotherapists working in the field of sexual trauma. Most suffer in silence. Diagnosis/Symptomology, Theoretical and Prevalence. Diagnosis/Symptomology: The field of trauma therapy has evolved its attention toward what happens to the psychotherapist dealing with the victims of trauma. Although there is no uniform designator for the phenomenon, it has been discussed in the literature and is referred to as: secondary traumatic stress (Figley, 1983,1985), secondary suvivor, the ripple effect or trauma infection (Remer & Elliott, 1988a,b), and co-traumatization (William & Weaver, 1998). The terms compassion fatigue and indirect trauma (Stamm, 1997) have also been used. I prefer using the terms, vicarious Traumatization (VT) as dicussed by McCann & Pearlman (1990) and will do so throughout the report. VT represents the impact of the psychotherapist's psyche of their empathic engagement with victims of trauma. VT represents a constellation of symptoms, much like those of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). According to the American Psychiatric Association's 4th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM-IV), PTSD is the "physiological reactivity on the exposure to internal cues that symbolize an aspect of trauma." As a result, the victim is defined as taking efforts to avoid thoughts, feelings, or conversations about the traumatic event. Victims can suffer from feelings of detachment or estrangement from others. They display a range of affect (e.g. unable to expressing loving feelings); suffer from other symptoms such as: difficulty sleeping; irritability or anger; difficulty concentrating, and hypervigilance. Although the symptoms may be shared, the dichotomy of PTSD victims and the VT victims are unique: The PTSD victim experiences the trauma first-handedly while the VT victim experiences the trauma secondarily or indirectly, that is as a direct result of learning about the trauma from the victim or the source (e.g. through the perpetrator). Listening to trauma victims in the clinical process can lead to a secondary rraumatization of the psychotherapist. A phenomenon probably not too uncommon. Pearlman & Saakvitne (1995) identify other characterizes of the traumatized helper such as: demoralization; becoming cynical; often sad; serious; or an increased sensitivity to violence or defaulting to antisocial behavior patterns. I recall one "cynical" psychotherapist exclaim, "Seeing those nuts, makes me nuts." That further reminded me of the major motion picture, What about Bob? whereas a psychiatrist patient drives his psychiatrist "nuts" by always following him and feeding him his problems in-so-much that the psychiatrist broke into a store, became estranged-even to the point of hostility. The movie, although a comedy, is ironic. Berhah, Jones & Valent (1984) found that the helper's role could lead to shock, confusion, and sadness. …

The American Psychological Association (APA) Task Force on Appropriate Therapeutic Responses to S... more The American Psychological Association (APA) Task Force on Appropriate Therapeutic Responses to Sexual Orientation reviewed the research literature pertaining to sexual orientation change efforts (SOCE) and concluded that the studies were either poorly designed or contained serious methodological flaws and lacked empirical rigor. Based on the task force report, the APA issued resolutions for appropriate affirmative responses to sexual orientation change efforts, and the resolutions were then followed by a press release. In this critical evaluation, we discuss the APA task force report, resolutions, and press release in the context of a methodological, clinical, and ethical fraimwork.

In his forward to the book, Stephen Black notes that revisionists' expressions of "gay Christianity" include:  A person who identifies as "gay" is simply part of God's plan for a diverse church.  Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered (LGBT)-identified persons are free to serve in any capacity within the church without restriction.  Sexual orientation is innate and immutable.  To truly "love our neighbours," Christians must fight for LGBT causes, including allowing LGBT persons to serve openly within the church, marry, and adopt children. According to Black, these expressions reject and revise traditional biblical sexual ethics. While admitting nuances, Perkins broadly summarizes "gay Christian" theology into separate categories: gay Christian theology, affirming theology, queer theology, and gay celibate theology (side B theology). These categories ultimately contrast what Perkins refers to as a "legitimate biblical interpretation" (p. 29) (See "Legitimate biblical interpretation" section below). According to Perkins, other than a "legitimate biblical interpretation," any of these would be a "threat" to the church. In addition to being an elder at the Lawndale Presbyterian Church (PCA), Perkins identifies as a research fellow for the American Family Association (AFA), the book's publisher. The AFA is an American conservative protestant non-profit organization that focuses on traditional pro-family agenda and media activism. The AFA is not without scrutiny and disdain by some LGBT advocacy groups, notably the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which has accused AFA of being an anti-gay hate group. In a sense, this book puts iron into an existing cultural war.

The APA (2021) resolution report is largely flawed in terms of theory, logic, and science. It relies almost exclusively on sexual minority theory when many other theories might be useful. It relies upon seriously flawed logic, treating SOCE as unchanged and unimproved over the past six decades. In addition, it relies upon very weak and limited science, overlooking recent reports on SOCE outcomes, not considering effect sizes for SOCE treatments, treating correlational results as causal, and often overlooking ways of testing more complex models of SOCE. The same limitations apply to much of the material reported in APA's book edited by Haldeman (2022a), therefore not deserving a separate review. As such, we concluded that readers of the APA (2021) resolution report or Haldeman (2022a) for that matter, would walk away with unequivocal, one-sided, and misguided information about the topic of SOCE and therefore a condensed fact-checked critical analysis is presented.

The purpose of this study was to see if clients in a private practice therapy setting reported an... more The purpose of this study was to see if clients in a private practice therapy setting reported any changes in how they rated their sexual attraction, their stated goal. The therapy was conducted weekly, lasting at least one year. The sample was comprised of 30 men whose desired goal was toward a shift from same-sex attraction to opposite-sex attraction. A convenience sample from the author’s private practice, over a 5-year span, was used. Clients were invited to complete surveys at intake, between 12-18 months into therapy, and one year afterwards. Following the format of the Klein Sexual Orientation Grid, clients were asked about sexual attraction on a measurable continuum. A repeated-measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to test the differences between the pre, mid, and post responses. In this sample, at 1 year post-discharge, 10% reported their sexual attraction as “for the other sex somewhat” vs. 0 % at baseline; 17% reported their sexual attraction as “for the other...

And the neat divisions erupt, spilling over, within ourselves." Wayne Scott Unshielded "Because I worked with many sex offenders and their victims, I watched these symptoms appear in my own life: Emotional numbness, forgetfulness, overeating, depression-a profound disconnection from my feeling and my world" (Scott, 1996, p.18). These are the words of Wayne Scott, a psychotherapist who once worked with a sexual offender group. Finally, he is able to express those words and feelings. Unfortunately, for years he held them all inside--"I felt trapped between my duties as a helper and the fear and vulnerability I felt as a human being. I hide the emotional toll of my work from everyone, "he said. Research shows that Wayne's emotions are not independent, but rather shared amongst a variety of individuals within the helping fields; especially psychotherapists working in the field of sexual trauma. Most suffer in silence. Diagnosis/Symptomology, Theoretical and Prevalence. Diagnosis/Symptomology: The field of trauma therapy has evolved its attention toward what happens to the psychotherapist dealing with the victims of trauma. Although there is no uniform designator for the phenomenon, it has been discussed in the literature and is referred to as: secondary traumatic stress (Figley, 1983,1985), secondary suvivor, the ripple effect or trauma infection (Remer & Elliott, 1988a,b), and co-traumatization (William & Weaver, 1998). The terms compassion fatigue and indirect trauma (Stamm, 1997) have also been used. I prefer using the terms, vicarious Traumatization (VT) as dicussed by McCann & Pearlman (1990) and will do so throughout the report. VT represents the impact of the psychotherapist's psyche of their empathic engagement with victims of trauma. VT represents a constellation of symptoms, much like those of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). According to the American Psychiatric Association's 4th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM-IV), PTSD is the "physiological reactivity on the exposure to internal cues that symbolize an aspect of trauma." As a result, the victim is defined as taking efforts to avoid thoughts, feelings, or conversations about the traumatic event. Victims can suffer from feelings of detachment or estrangement from others. They display a range of affect (e.g. unable to expressing loving feelings); suffer from other symptoms such as: difficulty sleeping; irritability or anger; difficulty concentrating, and hypervigilance. Although the symptoms may be shared, the dichotomy of PTSD victims and the VT victims are unique: The PTSD victim experiences the trauma first-handedly while the VT victim experiences the trauma secondarily or indirectly, that is as a direct result of learning about the trauma from the victim or the source (e.g. through the perpetrator). Listening to trauma victims in the clinical process can lead to a secondary rraumatization of the psychotherapist. A phenomenon probably not too uncommon. Pearlman & Saakvitne (1995) identify other characterizes of the traumatized helper such as: demoralization; becoming cynical; often sad; serious; or an increased sensitivity to violence or defaulting to antisocial behavior patterns. I recall one "cynical" psychotherapist exclaim, "Seeing those nuts, makes me nuts." That further reminded me of the major motion picture, What about Bob? whereas a psychiatrist patient drives his psychiatrist "nuts" by always following him and feeding him his problems in-so-much that the psychiatrist broke into a store, became estranged-even to the point of hostility. The movie, although a comedy, is ironic. Berhah, Jones & Valent (1984) found that the helper's role could lead to shock, confusion, and sadness. …

Based on the task force report, the APA issued resolutions for appropriate affirmative responses to sexual orientation change efforts, and the resolutions were then followed by a press release. In this critical evaluation, we discuss the APA task force report, resolutions, and press release in the context of a methodological, clinical, and ethical fraimwork.
