The Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC) of The
Cyprus Institute, and the Universities of Cyprus, Cambridge and Leuven are delighted to announce
that the 2021 Cyprus Institute Summer School "Ancient Landscapes: Raw Materials and Natural
Resources" will be held from the 26th to the 31st of July 2021. The summer school is organised
around an intensive series of daily lectures from leading scientists from STARC and the
Universities of Cyprus, Cambridge and Leuven. In addition, field trips and visits to UNESCO
World Heritage sites will be offered. The first two days of the summer school will take place at
the STARC Laboratories in Nicosia, followed by four days at the village of Pedoulas in the
Troodos mountain. The detailed programme can be found here:

The application deadline is the 25th of June 2021. Places are limited and will be given on a firstcome, first-served basis. Applicants should be enrolled at a Master's level programme or above.

Cost: The cost for the summer school is €600, including local transport in Cyprus, all meals and
shared accommodation (2 people per room). Flights are not included. A non-refundable deposit
(€200) is required within two weeks of being offered a place to secure it. In case of COVID-related
travel restrictions announced after registration, the deposit will be returned. Limited scholarships
are available upon request for applicants from low and middle-income countries and those with a
demonstrable involvement in archaeological science in the Eastern Mediterranean/Middle East.
Applications should include a brief motivation letter, a CV and the name of a potential referee.
The Summer School is organised as part of the activities of the Horizon 2020 project ‘PROMISED:
Promoting Archaeological Science in the Eastern Mediterranean’ (Grant Agreement No 811068)
Protection protocols against COVID-19 will be followed throughout, and we will inform you
before the start of the Summer School about specific measures that will be in effect.
