What's new in version 4.1.0
It may not LOOK different ... but we've redesigned our navigation infrastructure to bring you better and more accurate routes. Good news cyclists, we now support bicycle routes!
It seems like the more things change, the less they stay the same, and we won't be able to support older versions of the app much longer. Please upgrade to version 4.0 or later as soon as possible!

I have an OEM "generic" Android tablet and as such it is NOT Google Certified. Because of this it is not recognized by Google and cannot download apps from Google Play / Market. After pulling my hair out trying to finds apps the device could use I recalled Amazon has an app store. Even the app store that the OEM loads on the device for use does not work and crashes 90% of the time. Looking through the free apps on Amazon I went for anything that would stress the tablet the most. MapQuest, high detail maps, PERFECT choice! To my complete joy and amazement MapQuest ran perfectly! So now it was time to really test. I went to the "recommended store" and tried MapQuest. CRASH! What have I learned and verified? If you have a generic Android device (especially if it's a tablet) forget and / or delete where they want you to find apps UNLESS they were smart enough to use Amazon from the start. Amazon's listed apps are great and far more compatible than what others have. BTW: I'm an IT Admin so I know what I'm talking about
I am using this app on my kindle device and it is the worst experience I have ever encountered on any device I have ever owned. It is impossible to find or perform the simplest of tasks I am going to erase it from my kindle as soon as I am done with this rating.
I ordered this item for my granddaughter who just turned two. My daughter as always loved owls and decorated my granddaughter's nursery with owls. Consequently, my granddaughter loves them too. This little backpack is perfect for her. She put it on immediately and loves wearing it. It is adorable and very sturdy. She uses it to bring her change of clothes and favorite stuffed owl to preschool every day and absolutely loves it! I believe being able to bring her familiar items with her to school in a way she loves has made her transition to preschool much easier. I received this item at a discount in exchange for my honest opinion and review. I would gladly have paid full price for it due to the quality of the item and how much my granddaughter loves it.
I've used this app to navigate to several places using my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 and my cell phone providing a portable hot-spot.
The routing is good, but not always the way I choose based on my knowledge of the area. It prefers major roads and will route a mile out of the way even when the minor roads have higher speed limits and less lights. It is really quick to recalculate a route when I did not take the suggested turn.
The voice used for spoken directions is marginal. It sounds very computerized. It speaks numbers as "one thousand nine hundred" instead of "nineteen hundred". This is a big annoyance since most of the roads around here are 4 digit numbers and everyone refers to them in hundreds. The spoken directions also use yards, as in "in 100 yards turn right". I would rather have feet but that is not an option.

I recently took my Kindle fire to Canada and Newfoundland and to my surprise MapQuest worked with current area maps, but beware of the extortionate roaming charges for internet access. It cost me a fiver a day every time I left the house. In the UK I have found it good for out of car activities because I have GPS fitted in the car. This is a good alternative though if you haven't.
