Mission
The mission of the National Endowment for the Arts' Office of Civil Rights and Equal Employment Opportunity (OCREEO) is to promote equal access to the arts in every community across America by ensuring compliance with federal civil rights laws. OCREEO is responsible for the development, implementation, and coordination of all aspects of NEA’s civil rights programs. This includes (but not limited to):
Civil Rights: Programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance from the National Endowment for the Arts. Specifically, the administration of the statutes that prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origen, sex (including gender identity, sexual orientation, and pregnancy), age, or disability (includes programs conducted by the NEA).
Equal Employment Opportunity: Employees and applicants for employment with the National Endowment for the Arts. OCREEO is responsible for the administration of statutes that prohibit discrimination in employment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity, sexual orientation, and pregnancy), national origen, age (40 or older), disability (mental/physical), genetic information (including family medical history), or in retaliation for participation in a protected activity.
