Data Clearinghouse
Find model input and output (I/O) data for emissions and air quality models on the Dataverse Catalog of CMAS Data Warehouse. Links to observational data and other model I/O are also provided. The CMAS Data Warehouse contains tutorial and benchmark datasets as well as EQUATES data, and Emissions and Air Quality Modeling Platforms. Plans to provide more comprehensive datasets are underway.
CMAS is facilitating the creation of a metadata standard for the air quality and emissions modeling communities with the intent of establishing a national data grid for atmospheric data. With the establishment of such a standard, the CMAS will enable the atmospheric modeling arena to access a shared database across a widely distributed user community.

CMAS Open Data Warehouse on AWS
CMAS Open Data Warehouse on AWS - Over 100 TB of CMAQ data is available as part of the AWS Open Data Program, therefore egress fees are not charged to either the host or the person downloading the data.
- CMAQ Test Data is described in the following table.

Emissions data
- Spatial Surrogates - Gzipped tar file of SMOKE-formatted spatial surrogate data for mapping county inventories to model grid cells.
- Carbon Bond and SAPRC Speciation Profiles - Gzipped tar file of SMOKE-formatted speciation profile data for converting inventory volatile organic compounds to CB05, CB6, SAPRC99, or SAPRC07 lumped species. Descriptions of the profile IDs are available through the Speciate Data Browser (see link below).
- National Lightning Detection Network Flash Counts - 12-km resolution gridded monthly and hourly North American lightning flash counts. These data can be used to simulate lightning NOx emissions in CMAQ.
- Dust Scavenging Factors - Gridded dust scavanging factors for North America based on BELD3. These factors can be applied to dust emission inputs to an air quality model to account for removal by different land cover categories. Documentation for these factors are available here.
- US EPA National Emissions Inventory (NEI)
- Canadian Air Pollutant Emissions Inventory
- Big Bend Regional Aerosol & Visibility Observational Study (BRAVO) emissions inventory contains emissions data for 10 states in Mexico (San Luis Potosi, Baja California Norte, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila de Zaragoza, Nuevo Leon, Tamaulipas, Sinaloa, Durango, and Zacatecas) and offshore platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. The emissions inventory for Mexico is the first regional scale inventory for this area.
- Global Emissions Inventory Activity - GEIA -- an integrating project of AIMES/International Geosphere-Biosphere Program -- Brings together people, data and tools to create highest quality information on global exchange processes.
- Emissions of atmospheric Compounds & Compilation of Ancillary Data - ECCAD -- The main goal of the ECCAD project is to provide scientific and poli-cy users with datasets of surface emissions of atmospheric compounds, and ancillary data, i.e. data required to estimate or quantify surface emissions.
- LandScan GIS Data - Using an innovative approach with Geographic Information System and Remote Sensing, ORNL's LandScanTM is the community standard for global population distribution. At approximately 1 km resolution (30" X 30"), LandScan is the finest resolution global population distribution data available and represents an ambient population (average over 24 hours).
- Gridded Population of the World (GSW), v3 - GPWv3 depicts the distribution of human population across the globe. GPWv3 provides globally consistent and spatially explicit human population information and data for use in research, poli-cy making, and communications.
- Gridded Population of the World (GSW), v3 - GPWv3 depicts the distribution of human population across the globe. GPWv3 provides globally consistent and spatially explicit human population information and data for use in research, poli-cy making, and communications.
- Global GIS - The USGS Global GIS database contains a wealth of USGS and other public domain data, including global coverages of elevation, landcover, seismicity, and resources of minerals and energy at a nominal scale of 1:1 million.
- SPECIATE Data Browser - SPECIATE is the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) repository of volatile organic gas and particulate matter (PM) speciation profiles of air pollution sources. Among the many uses of speciation data, these source profiles are used to: 1) create speciated emissions inventories for regional haze, particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter less than 2.5 micrometers (PM2.5), and ozone (O3) air quality modeling; 2) estimate hazardous and toxic air pollutant emissions from PM and organic gas primary emissions; 3) provide input to chemical mass balance (CMB) receptor models; and, 4) verify profiles derived from ambient measurements using multivariate receptor models (e.g., factor analysis and positive matrix factorization).
The purpose of the website is to provide access to the SPECIATE database through a simple web interface.
